Freema Agyeman is a British actress known for her works in series like Sense 8 and Doctor Who. Agyeman was born with the name Frema on March 20, 1979, in London, England, in the United Kingdom. After beginning her professional acting career, she changed the spelling of her first name to avoid mispronunciation. She was born to parents from Ghana and Iran. Growing up, she loved martial arts, horse riding, and gymnastics.
Her high school was Our Lady’s Convent located in Amhurst Park, Stamford Hill, and during the summer of 1996, she attended Anna Scher Theater School in Islington. The black-haired beauty graduated from Middlesex University in 2000 with BA Honours in Performing Arts and Drama. In 1998 she also went to school for theater at Radford University in Virginia, USA.

At the start of Series three in the episode Smith and Jones, she returned to the series as the cousin of Adeola, Martha Jones. In the rest of Series three, Agyeman continued as Martha and served as the character’s voice talent for the special animated series, The Infinite Quest. It did not take long before Agyeman would return to the Doctor Who show. First, she took on the part of Martha once more in a handful of the Torchwood series two episodes and became the third character to cross between the two shows.
She was back on the parent program for five episodes of series four just a few months after her appearances in Torchwood, revisiting Jones’s role for three more appearances on the show.
