Ginny Weasley, as we all know her in the Harry Potter series movies, is all grown up and away from the shadows of her Harry Potter character. At the age of 10, Bonnie Francesca Wright premiered as Ginny Weasley in the movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Although she only had a few camera shots, the little Weasley was bound to appear in the next movie series.
Bonnie was born on February 17, 1991, to parents, Sheila Teague and Gary Wright. The family lived in London and had a Jewelry company called Wright and Teague.
Although most of Bonnie’s teenage life got to be in the Harry Potter series, she never forgot her education. She continued her studied until she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Arts: London College of Communication.
After Bonnie’s appearance at the first movie series of Harry Potter, her role began to grow more prominent as the movie series continued. She became a lead role in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and continued until the last movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1 & 2.
Wright’s character, Ginny Weasley, is Harry Potter’s love interest, played by Daniel Radcliffe. Later at the end of the movie series, they got married and had a son named Albus Severus Potter.
After the last Harry Potter movie series ended in 2011, Bonnie had further movie engagements, appearing in starring roles. In 2013, she starred in the film Before I sleep. The American drama movie premiered at the Heartland Film Festival in October of the same year.
Aside from her movie roles, Bonnie also appeared in stage plays like The Moment of Truth. The play premiered at the Southwark Playhouse in London. It was a four-week run, and Wright’s performance got highly praised.
But Wright’s interest switched to directing and producing films after she graduated in college. Her first direction was in December 2013 when she directed her co-star Sophie Lowe’s music video. Then, in May 2014, she directed and wrote a film, Know Thyself, and even directed a short film about her parents’ jewelry business entitled, Fade to Gold.
On the other hand, Wright’s love for the environment made her appear in one of Greenpeace’s episodes, where they monitored the number of plastics trashed into the oceans. She is currently raising awareness of the dangers of using single-use plastics. She is also an ambassador for J.K. Rowling’s charity, Lumos.
