Birth named Nimrata Randhawa by her parents, Nikki was born on January 20, 1978, in the state of South Carolina. Her family is from the line of Indian Punjabi American Sikh families. Haley’s nickname, Nikki, came from the Punjabi term, Little One, which was her family’s nickname for her.
Although Randhawa would soon go into the world of politics, her educational background was far from it. She finished her college degree in Clemton University with a major in Accounting. After graduation, Randhawa worked for FCR Corporation for a while before Nikki finally decided to work for her family’s business. Later in 1996, she married Michael Haley. It was then the start of Nikki Haley’s political career.
Nikki became active as a board member in the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce. Then, in 2004, she ran for the House of Representatives in her state, South Carolina. Nikki won the position and even got re-elected for her second term in 2008. In 2009, Haley announced that she was going to run for governor under the Republican Party. Then, in November 2010, she won the governor position versus Vincent Sheheen. Nikki became the first female governor of South Carolina and got re-elected for her second term.
In 2016, President Donald Trump wanted to nominate Haley for the ambassadorship to the United Nations and the position of Secretary of State. However, Haley declined the State Secretary position. Instead, she won as the U.S. Ambassador for the United Nations on November 26, 2016.
Along her ambassadorship, Haley voiced her opinion on the country’s sanctions against Russia. Also, she expressed her support for Syria as well as denounced North Korea’s missile test missions, saying that the country will deploy its military to the country if they will keep on doing the missile tests.
On December 31, 2018, Nikki Haley left the U.N. position and focused on her other goals.
