Born with the name Kimberly Denise Jones, Lil Kim was born on July 11, 1974, in Brooklyn. After her parents got divorced, Kimberly had to live with her dad, which was one of her haunting experiences. While in high school, Kimberly got kicked out of her dad’s house, making her live on the streets.
In her teenage years, Kimberly met Christopher Wallace, popularly known as The Notorious B.I.G. Jones was among the group Junior M.A.F.I.A. when B.I.G. promoted the group, which then soared through the Billboard Charts after the release of their album, Conspiracy. Jones’ popularity also increased because of the group, and soon after, she began her solo career as a rapper.
In 1996, Lil Kim released her debut album, Hard Core, and because of her astounding rapping performance, the album hit the top 11 on the Billboard 200. Then, in 2000, Lil Kim released her second album entitled, The Notorious K.I.M. The album was another success for Lil Kim, although her songs were not entirely successful on the charts. Her second album even hit the number 1 spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart.
Lil Kim’s rollercoaster ride began in 2005 after her successful third album release. She got convicted of conspiracy and perjury after she lied about her involvement in the Manhattan shooting in 2001. After the lengthy trial, she got a one-year prison sentence and 30 days of home detention. Lil Kim was also on probation for three years following the 30-day home detention.
While on federal prison, Lil Kim released her fourth album entitled The Naked Truth. Although her album did not sell big, just like her other albums, it still placed a spot on the Billboard charts. Although the album says a lot about Lil Kim, it does not involve any revelation of Kimberly’s boobs and ass or her hot bikini body.
On August 31, 2006, Lil Kim made her first appearance since being in prison at the MTV Music Awards and presented the Best Male Video on stage. Then, in 2009, she appeared in the reality show, Dancing With the Stars.
In March of 2019, Kimberly revealed in an interview that she is working on her new album, and it will be entitled 9. When asked what it meant, she answered that there are many meanings behind the album’s title.
