Kelly Macdonald was born into the world in Glasgow, Scotland, on 23 February 1976. Together with her family, the actress moved to Aberdeen when she was five years old and enjoyed much of her youth. She wound up going to ‘Eastwood High School’ in Newton Mearns, Scotland, where she completed both middle and high school. Macdonald had begun her professional life in Glasgow as a cocktail waitress.
She decided to give acting a whirl when she saw a pamphlet marketing a casting round for a movie called ‘Trainspotting.’ The stunner then got chosen to portray a teenage temptress called Diane Coulston in the aforementioned dark comedy movie.
Among her many roles comprise the following characters: Mary O’Neary in Two Family House and an actor in Finding Neverland who plays the fictional Peter Pan. She has had significant parts in the period show Gosford Park, directed by the brilliant Robert Altman, who enjoyed playing the maid of a nobleman in a show titled Intermission. Macdonald’s notoriety grew after she starred as Mary MacEachern in the homicide investigation film ‘Gosford Park’ in 2001.
The picture was a major commercial success, and the ensemble won several awards and nominations at esteemed competitions such as ‘Satellite Awards, ‘Critics’ Choice Movie Awards’ ‘Florida Film Critics Circle.’ and the ‘Screen Actors Guild Awards.’
She then appeared as the servant Evangeline in the 2005 box-office hit movie Nanny McPhee and has subsequently played features in films like A Cock and Bull and the Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men. Her manager was initially uncertain that Kelly was eligible to play the latter role, and then stated that Macdonald had to “battle for the position.” Nevertheless, the alluring star’s determination paid off when she was named eligible for a BAFTA Award under the category of Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
From 2010 until its end in 2014, she went on to star as the beloved character Margaret Thompson who is the spouse of an Atlantic City mafia boss in the HBO crime series Boardwalk Empire. She played the role during all five seasons. She was bestowed the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2011. In 2016, the stunning siren played the lead role as Claire Maddox in the Special Correspondents. It was the creation of fellow British icon Ricky Gervais, and as the lovable Mrs. Walk in the project titled as Swallows and Amazons.
