Alexandra and Larry Jepsen welcomed their second baby, Carly Rae Jepsen, on November 21, 1985, in their lovely hometown, Mission, British Columbia. Even when she was still a child, Carly already got an eye for musical theatre. While in school, she joined stage plays like Annie and Grease.
When Carly graduated from college, she moved to Vancouver to pursue her love for music. Although she graduated from the Canadian College of Performing Arts, she still wanted to become a musician instead of an actress.
While still in college, Carly decided to try out her luck in Canadian Idol. She placed third in the finals, and that exposure led Jepsen known in the music industry. She then signed a contract with Jonathan Simkin in 2007 following her Canadian Idol exposure.
In 2008, Jepsen released her first album, Tug of War. The album had moderate success in Canada, reaching number 40 in the Canadian Hot 100. Jepsen then started her Canada tour in 2009.
Carly entered the mainstream industry in 2011. She recorded her first single, “Call Me Maybe”, for her extended EP, Curiosity. Thanks to Justin Bieber, Jepsen’s single became a huge success worldwide. It reached the top 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for nine weeks and became the best-selling single in 2012. Carly’s music video portrayed a sexy neighbor seducing a guy who ended up gay. But the video was overall wholesome and not revealing any boobs or ass.
On the last quarter of 2012, Carly released her second album, Kiss. The album soared into the music charts, reaching the top ten in countries like the U.K. and Australia. In the same year, Jepsen also received the Rising Star Award at the Billboard Music Awards. Then, on the following year, Carly’s second album earned the Album of the Year at the Juno Awards.
In 2015, Carly released her third album, Emotions, which gained a cult following from more adult listeners. Then, in 2018, Carly released her fourth album, Dedicated. The release was on the same weekend as the finale of the Game of Thrones. With this, many Jepsen followers pinned a meme on Jepsen, calling her the “real Queen of the Iron Throne” after listening to her album.
