When we save a comment in the database, we save it with a 'parent' parameter. Parent parameter is the id of parent comment - the one you reply to.
When we display comments on the page, we build comment threads by attaching each comment to its parent comment.
But what happens when you delete the parent comment? All of its child comments get lost in the thread. For some strange reason these comments end up attaching themselves to some random comments and they usually prefer comments from the future.
We have since fixed this bug. If you delete a comment now, all child comments are deleted too.
tl;dr
The bug was caused by a wormhole in space-time continuum. pittsburgesse is a curious time traveler.
