I don't have the game so I can't tell you for sure.
But I have used that cheat before, if you start fresh & pass the game just enough so you can capture another pokemon you can deposit your starter pokemon in the pc & while you're saving it & it says "SAVING, PLEASE DO NOT TURN OFF THE POWER" you have to turn it off like mid-way (this isn't surgery so it doesn't have to be exact) then restart & choose another pokemon, then after that, you have to pass it once more until you can go to the pc & withdraw the pokemon you last put. You can go for all 3 starters if you wish to.
But these only work on old games such as yellow, red, blue, & I think crystal.
Also this cheat OBVIOUSLY has a down side, the down side being you might corrupt your game & it will never work.
or if you do it a lot (like to multiply items) it might erase all your memory. well have fun!
