riots in london

Hi sharenators just wanting to know what the views are on the riots happening in London. I don't know if people abroad have heard about it yet but I am sure people from the UK have. I live just down the road from where it is all happening and it is pretty serious shit going on to be honest the amount of sirens I am hearing going on and the shops being burnt down. There was also family's with little kids looting JD Sports. Just wanting to know if it effects you at all in anyway or if you agree or disagree with the riot??

I'm a teenage boy and I live in Croydon which was one of the heavily affected areas of the riot. And frankly, what happens pisses me off. It started as a protest because of a guy that got shot, but now it's just about kids with their ghetto mentalities trying to seem like rebels. But they're just heartless and overly cocky. They're just doing it because they think the violence is hilarious, and they just want to get as much loot as they can. And what does our Prime Minister do about it? Well, he's on holiday, but the guy standing in for him, Nick Clegg, decides that he's going to talk to locals about it, obviously because that's going to make such a big difference.
The funny thing is where the riots are happening. It's the kids around this area that are like this. They just need to get their heads straight. Of course, it is a poor area, but it's better than this.
But what pisses me off, and my friends around here, is that they're just doing what the media actually wants. British kids have a ridiculously bad reputation, because of the way the media has stereotyped us as hooded, despicable chavs. This just gives them more ammunition to stereotype us with. But we're not all like this, it's the minority, but we're going to get the shit for it.
Sorry for rant, but it's just really gotten to me.

yeah I live in welling and the closes one to me is in Woolwich are all I could hear last night was sirens and I went though Croydon the other day lucky I didn't come back from holiday yesterday

Pretty sure gays win over both of those. Atheists are up there too.
    - Ertrov August 9, 2011, 2:59 pm
nah not in united states gays and atheists will get good jobs before we do also they dont get followed around in stores
    - xxkisamexx August 10, 2011, 1:56 am
Trust me, if you're openly atheist or gay in a a small town, especially in the South, you won't be getting a job there. Also, there's a good chance you'll be an outcast from even your own friends and family. From the outside, it seems like America is getting more tolerant, but they aren't. I have to hide my atheism at home just to keep from being kicked out. Now if you're on the coast, you have a better chance, but even then, atheists and gays are a tiny percent of the population.
Edit: by "from the outside" I mean not being gay or atheist, not necessarily being non-American.

black guy shot at a cop, cop killed him. Family protested the unlawful treatment of the case from the police. AND THAN THE WHOLE FUCKING COUNTRY THOUGHT THEY NEEDED TO RIOT ABOUT IT. Delinquents...

They are not rioting about the death of the man maybe the people in Tottenham were but the rest of the UK are just being complete thugs and are just looting for shear hell out of it.
    - dabbler August 9, 2011, 4:45 am
I agree. my description was made to be short and sweet. but yes, once riots broke out from the event the whole country took advantage
    - bufus101 August 9, 2011, 5:26 am
he wasn't armed actually but still the riots are being exploited.

My stepdad's just been sent down there as a police officer to help deal with the riots down there. All this has started because some twats wanted an excuse to fight blaming it on the Government. It's pathetic. I'm not a fan of the Government and what they're doing but rioting is NOT the answer... Monday night only kicked off because someone got stopped and searched.. And it all kicked off after a peaceful protest on Friday about a guy getting shot... It's just some idiots who wanted an excuse to fight and rob a TV. If anything happens to my stepdad because of these pricks, how is that fair?

where are you from and is your stepdad being sent down to london. Also they have had 6000 police men and women out in london that is not another we need help sent in from other countries as well or send in a snatch squad and corner them all in instead of putting 8 police men/women against 200 thugs. the government needs to be spending more money on the police force for situations that happen such as this one
    - dabbler August 9, 2011, 5:01 am
I live in Preston, in the North West, so it's the Lancashire Constabulary. He used to do police training and major incident planning so he's very well informed on these things so they've sent 50/60 officers from our force down there, him as one of them until Friday at the earliest. So, he's gonna miss my sisters 21st birthday and everything... I just really hope he's gonna be okay..
Yeah, and this is why they should never have cut the public services budget.. They've been saying on Sky News that the Met have said they still won't be able to cover all of the areas affected even with the 16,000 they plan to have on duty tonight... I just can't believe this.. It's unreal.
    - SuDoku August 9, 2011, 5:06 am
wow so your stepdad is being sent out to london. yeah i suspect he will be okay there hasn't been any serious incidences yet but 16000 maybe they might be able to put more policemen/women together and they might be able to stand a chance. also ive heard some people say that sending out the army is stupid this isn't Afghanistan but this is a lot like the IRA when there was riots going on there my stepdad was out in Ireland and they had rubber bullets but if shot just at there feet it bounces up and hits the person in the face for times as hard so i say send the army out.
    - dabbler August 9, 2011, 5:11 am
I think if it gets any worse then yes, the Army needs to be brought in.. But for now, I think the rubber bullets should be used as well as the hosepipes.
I hate the fact we're all getting tarred with the same brush. I don't agree with violent protests at all, I believe violence should only be used in self defence.. Yet, we're all classed as 'youths'..
    - SuDoku August 9, 2011, 5:17 am
We not actually allow to use the watercanons because there apparently they are not permitted to be send out on our streets which is complete rubbish (I don't know if this is true but I have heard they are not allowed to. I also don't believe in violent protests (riots) and I know because most of the people our age now a days are thugs and criminals then we all.
    - dabbler August 9, 2011, 5:23 am
It's seriously fucked me right off... I'm now gonna worry until my stepdads home.. Some dude got fucking shot yesterday and died and you keep hearing about all these officers getting injured.. What are these rioters gaining from this? More tax payers money is gonna be spent to fix all this.. It's our own god damn country!
    - SuDoku August 9, 2011, 5:32 am
hope your stepdad gets out of there okay, my brother and his wife live like 5 minutes down the road from the riots D: i hope they don't get hurt/killed..
    - Nightfang August 9, 2011, 6:39 am
Apparently all the water cannons are in Northern Ireland, but we can't use them anyway according to the government because they can cause blindness, but if you ask me those "people deserve everything they fucking get, they're making the whole of Britain look bad
    - BCARS2701 August 9, 2011, 11:27 am
we should do exactly what they have done in Ireland bring in the god dam army my stepfather thought in Ireland and he said bring in the rubber bullets and watercanons but when you fire the rubber bullets firer them at ground that way you are not braking the rules and it also hits them in the face 4 times as hard
    - dabbler August 9, 2011, 11:32 am
The thing is though, in my opinion this is nothing that the normal armed response unit can't handle, it's just the fact the police and CO 19 are being ordered to just corden of areas, they should be in their trying to stop this
    - BCARS2701 August 9, 2011, 11:35 am
yeah they are able to handle it your right but the only thing is there is not enough of them to be able to control and handle it
    - dabbler August 9, 2011, 11:38 am
I'm afraid that's what happens when you cut the police force, in fact it shows just how bad the government is with our money, it's the same with the armed forces. They cut RAF service personnel, then a few weeks later they go to Libya, and can not understand why it is hard to maintain a no fly zone when you have no pilots or planes :/
    - BCARS2701 August 9, 2011, 11:41 am
I know our government cut the police force by %20 and I know they seem to want to spend the tax payers money of stuff we don't need as much as police forces.
    - dabbler August 9, 2011, 12:12 pm
those rubber bullets hurt like a bitch I got hit by one during the orange riots and I wasn't even involved I was just leaving a pub and next thing I know I'm on the ground I can hardly breath and I have a welt the size of a 50 cent piece on the right side of my neck.

I live in the lovely region of Surrey, an area not normally associated with thuggery and what not. Despite this, a city near me by the name of Guildford had a riot the day just passed and, frankly, it pushes my buttons the wrong way. The riots were not began for a noble cause and now, it seems, that even that initial cause has been forgotten for the sake of anarchy. I think the police should be brutal to the risk of being Draconian and as such should send out a strong message to any would-be rioters. Anyone who condones such behavior is simply an ignorant and unbalanced individual who should be institutionalized and separated accordingly from civil society.

Riots are never a reasonable response to a problem. It's barbaric. And I'd say the exact same thing if this were in the US.

exactly I'm all for public disobedience but for god sakes rioting is is just an excuse to wreck and steal stuff.
    - triclebickle August 8, 2011, 8:13 pm
I agree, just like the vancouver riots. Your team makes the finals and loses so you cause your city millions of dollars in damage? it is so stupid.
    - PwnzElite August 8, 2011, 8:31 pm
It's completely retarded I mean I've been in Belfast during the orange riots and noticed that it's mostly students that want to be anarchists for the day. And really only reason for rioting I can even remotely understand is a revolution and that is it nothing else constitutes rioting.
    - triclebickle August 8, 2011, 8:37 pm
yeah all these riots are stupid it was al over a man who got shot by the police. but if you pull a gun out on the police then you are going to start firing at him. So because of the riots in Tottenham they have started everywhere and it is mostly the gangs around my area that are rioting a looting.

Well I stuck in the Los Angeles Riots in the 90's and it was pretty much the same about 5-10% of people were actually out there because Rodney King verdict the rest were breaking into Target stores, Circuit City, Best Buy, Clothing stores. An entire Blockbuster video got cleaned out. The News crews on the ground were recording people coming out of stores all happy and shouting "everything is free!"
People working in 2 banks barricaded the doors and started shooting at people running by. It was an absolute mess. I here the "group" in North London is about the same make as the LA rioters....go figure.

If I were a store owner, there'd be a shotgun behind the counter and a sign out front that reads, "Looters look like zombies to me.... and I HATE zombies."
    - Ertrov August 8, 2011, 9:40 pm
True enough! unfortunetly a lot the bigger spots like the chain stores don't carry firearms. You might look like the freak employee if your keeping one....until the rioter/zombie apocolypse :)
    - brotroll1 August 8, 2011, 11:28 pm
yeah there was some Turkish men stood outside there shops protecting them with baseball bats and then something like 100 more Turkish people got involved and chased about 200 rioters down the street but were allowed guns in the UK so they are not able to protect shops with guns (rubbish if i say)

I live towards the middle of the UK, and have seen all of this over the news and it is pissing me of so bloody much, I saw some footage from the riots and the people on the footage are just thugs and lowlifes. And I hate the way they big themselves up to be men and if they were men then they should know what they are doing is completely wrong, if they want to know really men they are the ones fighting for our country and the brave police men and women along with fire-fighters and paramedics.

Hi I live miles away from the riots and I'm fed up of everything I do being filled up with talks of riots, talking won't solve anything. Get over it?

it is good to discuss current event this is after all a site where you share and discuss.
    - triclebickle August 9, 2011, 3:28 pm
It is all over the TV, it is all over my FB homepage, it is all over every news webiste & probably newspaper in UK if not other countries too, do people really need to come here too?
    - TryThat August 9, 2011, 3:48 pm
in a society as connected as we are this should be expected and tolerated but now and the most you can do is ignore it.
    - triclebickle August 9, 2011, 4:39 pm
I am only discussing this topic as I only live a minuets away and I was wondering if anyone has been effected by the riots.

Yep just like the LA riots back in the day. Is the british government going to deploy the army? We had the US National Guard come in and that's what stopped them for us. As soon as they saw Humvee's with 50 caliber machine guns on top they ran straight back to the ghetto with there loot.

no they wont send in the army but they have brought in other policemen/women in from around the uk but then there is no police to protect there area. we need more police they cut the police force.
