The night before the burial of her husband 2nd Lt. James Cathey of the United States Marine Corps, killed in Iraq, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of "Cat", and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept.
"I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it" she said.
"I think that's what he would have wanted".

-Not sure what is more honorable: Being married to this faithful wife to the end or the Marine standing next to the casket watching over them both

i happened to see this on facebook and it makes me happy to know that love does still exist in this world. all we ever hear about is divorces and death and just awful things. the fact that he died is sad but her staying with him till through the night so she could lay by his side one last time gives me all the respect in the world for this woman and the marine who watched over them through the night.

seeing this makes me smile as it shows that humanity isn't totally screwed, I am saddened by the loss of a soldier, I have great respect for the marine standing watch, and I am pleased by his wife taking the oath of till death do us part to heart.

The official motto of the Marine Corps, "Semper Fidelis," (Latin for "Always Faithful" ) more commonly heard as "Semper Fi" was the first thing I thought of after reading this. Faithfulness is a unique quality these days, and one that will allow her husbands memory to live on.

Semper Fi Mrs. Cathey.

it is indeed. her husband can rest in peace knowing that she was faithful till the last. her love was true I'm glad she was able to spend one last night laying next to the man she loved.

To Mr. and Mrs. Cathey
Semper Fi

Well, I'm glad she'll get peace from it, don't get me wrong, but I don't see how he would know about it, since he's well, you know. Deceased.

Just keeping things in perspective. Not disagreeing that it's a wonderful thing she did, and I admire her faithfulness to her husband.
