come to think of it ive known a few girls that grew up with hippy parents that smoke pot all the time. 2 of them are actually lesbians (after years of smoking tons of pot themsevles) and the other girl is just ... really masculine looking.

... odd study, youd think it would be the opposite since it has something to do with estrogen produciton as well as inhibiting testosterone production... which is why men get boobs over a long period of time if they smoke alot and gain weight...

Actualy the smoking of anything does not make you fat, infact nicotine (smoked usualy in joints, so you don't htink i'm off topic here) is an appetite repressant, and nothing in cannabis makes you fat, it can make people feel very hungry (nicknamed the munchies) but the cannabis itself does not make you fat at all.
    - HippyBoy November 9, 2010, 8:13 am
    ... wow.

first off, id smack someone if they put tobacco in my joint, maybe roll a nice dutch (using the outer leaf from a cigar) but thats it.

the reason they want to use marijuana for medical purposes is its aid in the increase in appetite (and weight!) in cancer patients. and the terminally ill.

the cycle of pot when youre a beginner: smoke > high > HUNGRY > tired/fall asleep. know what sumo wrestlers do to gain weight? they eat tons of food right before falling asleep.

so... actually the smoking of pot can cause you to gain weight. (with continued use) as a result of a pattern of eating more, and sleeping and vedging around more.
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 8:41 am
    Really, i'd just smoke it.

Yes cannabis makes you hungry, but eating doesn't always mean a gain in weight, you can choose the jam donut over the carrot sticks but that has nothing to do with the weed.

And i'd say i'm living proof that weed doesn't always make you hungry, i don't get the munchies from smoking weed, i enjoy food a lot more, then again i enjoy everything more when smoking but i do not feel the need to eat more food when stoned than i do sober.
    - HippyBoy November 9, 2010, 8:55 am
notice i said "when youre a beginner" and "with continued use"... for months, not years (if that clears it up)

you forgot to mention the sleepy part completely.

ive been smoking (weed) regularly since highschool, i havnt in a while, but im 25.... i had a good 8 years of smoking many times a day.

youre not living proof of anything except that your body can get used to anything. and if you didnt get hungry/sleepy when you first started smoking, youre either anorexic and the THC had no fat sells to stick to, or you were smoking some raggity ass weed. (im going to bet my money on #2, especially since you dont mind people mixing tobacco with your buds)
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 9:09 am
and heres an interesting bit. my first post said "which is why men get boobs over a long period of time if they smoke alot and gain weight..."

meaning on that last part, if they smoke alot, and if they gain weight. not every body is the same. and it's true, because of the estrogen in men caused from THC stimulating fat cells. it inhibits testosterone growth and accelerates estrogen.

and where im from you either get what we call a pot belly, or pot tits.

so i dont even know what you were orinally replying to with "actually..."
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 9:15 am
I didn't mention the fact that it makes you sleepy as it is completely irrelevant to this whole post and conversation and i never did deny that fact as it is true.

And i've been smoking weed solidly for four years now, none of it was as you call it raggity bud, i was very lucky to be born into a family of long term or ex long term smokers whos majority of close friends also were who had been around long enough for me to find out what good weed is and what bad weed is.

Now i have heard a lot of scientific studies about how the components etc of THC do trigger hunger molecules in the brain, but from my personal experience i do not get any more hungry no matter how much or of what "quality" i smoke.

And just to go back to your raggity ass weed comment, the diferent strains of marijuana have relatively the same percentage of THC in them which varies per strain, every single type of genuine marijuana will get you stoned, now you may not feel as monged, stoned, fucked or hammered off of some durban poison that your mate down the road grew in his greenhouse than you would after a nice bowl of cheese but a true toker should be able to enjoy any high as much as the last regardless of its strain or THC content, morons smoke weed to just get completely fucking monged, so to summarize unless it's euro hash (trash) or some perfectly good bud that some twat decided to spray hair spray on to make it look better, both of which i have only ever smoked once and then proceeded to go and get my money back, then there really is no such thing as "raggity bud" to someone who appreciates this herb for what it is and not just a fun drug to do.

After i decifered your post i came up with this repsonse.

Marihuana and sex: a critical survey.Abel EL.

Marihuana usage is associated with a life-style that involves earlier and more frequent sexual activity. Marihuana usage does not affect human male testosterone levels significantly, but does adversely affect sperm production. Animal studies have not found consistent changes in weights of male sexual organs but have corroborated the adverse effects of cannabinoid compounds on sperm production. The biological significances of these effects on sperm production are unclear, however, since there is no evidence that human marihuana users or male animals given cannabinoid compounds are less fertile or are at risk for dominant lethal mutations. Cannabinoid compounds reliably inhibit ovulation in animals and are associated with depressed luteinizing hormone (lh - leutenizing hormone - ) levels in both female and male animals. The decreased lh - leutenizing hormone - levels appear to be due to both hypothalamic and ovarian sites of action. Treatment with cannabinoid compounds is also associated with lower testosterone levels in male and lower prolactin levels in female animals. Effects on progesterone levels are inconclusive. Cannabinoid compounds do not possess estrogenic activity. Despite some consistencies in the data in virtually every study conducted with animals, there has been a basic confounding between direct drug action and secondary effects resulting from drug-induced decreases in food and water consumption and attendant weight loss. Almost all of the adverse effects of cannabinoid exposure on reproductive organs can be attributed to these secondary effects.

Marijuana: interaction with the estrogen receptor.

Sauer MA, Rifka SM, Hawks RL, Cutler GB Jr, Loriaux DL.

Crude marijuana extract competed with estradiol for binding to the estrogen receptor of rat uterine cytosol. Condensed marijuana smoke also competed with estradiol for its receptor. Pure delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol, however, did not interact with the estrogen receptor. Ten delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol metabolites also failed to compete with estradiol for its receptor. Of several other common cannabinoids tested, only cannabidiol showed any estrogen receptor binding. This was evident only at very high concentrations of cannabidiol. Apigenin, the aglycone of a flavinoid phytoestrogen found in cannabis, displa high affinity for the estrogen receptor. To assess the biological significance of these receptor data, estrogen activity was measured in vivo with the uterine growth bioassay, using immature rats. Cannabis extract in large doses exhibited neither estrogenic nor antiestrogenic effects. Thus, although estrogen receptor binding activity was observed in crude marijuana extract, marijuana smoke condensate and several known components of cannabis, direct estrogenic activity of cannabis extract could not be demonstrated in vivo.

It appears marijuana use does not elicit estrogenic effects.

The often heard assertion that THC causes gynecomastia is not related to estrogenic activity of the compound, but rather to the ability of THC to suppress luteinizing hormone (lh - leutenizing hormone - ). A number of studies have shown this (1) (2) (3). Other studies have failed to show an effect (4).

As with evidence supporting the theory behind marijuana induced gynecomastia, there are conflicting studies about whether there is even a correlation between marijuana use and gynecomastia. There is a much stronger correlation between alcoholism and gynecomastia than between weed and gynecomastia.

eating followed by sleeping causes you to maximise weight gain. so its relevant.

you deff smoke shitty bud if you dont mind tobacco mixed with it. it ruins the taste, ruins the high. end of story, and all of my friends that smoke cigarettes (which i used to as well) would agree mixing some sweet bud that tastes like grapefruit with some shit that tastes like raisins (tobacco) would be like taking a dump on a piece of pie.

i bet the lot of you smoke terrible bud, and they only know the difference between beasters (regular bud) and mids (mids have seeds). some strains get you "stoned" couch locked, foggy, sleepy feeling, some strains get you high, alert, giggly... its the difference between sativa and indica.

ive grown it myself, various strains, ive sold bulk quantities for a long time. and yes, raggity bud contains seeds, doesnt smell good, tastes bad, etc. its from the bottom of the plant, shitty strains that have a high yield and grow fast. read about the kind of weed they use to make hash in morocco, its garbage. and weed in the 60s was about 2-3% thc content on average. now some weed is as high as 20%. go look into the cannibus cup in amsterdam.

youre not a pot expert, you barely know anything. "trigger hunger molecules in the brain" thats a good reflection on the knowledge i assumed you had about bud.

all i have to say to that is:

"Physical Symptoms Related to Low Testosterone
Signs of low testosterone in men may include decreased sex drive, poor erections by the penis [erectile dysfunction (ED)], lowered sperm count and reduced fertility, or increased breast size."

half the things in what you just mindlessly copy/pasted after doing a quick google search are inconclusive.
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 10:26 am
i also wanted to point out; the lowered sperm count is the only thing in that list that can be accurately counted. sex drive (mentioned in your quasi-scientific article) can be positively effected for multiple reasons, most likely that when you smoke, weed acts as a mild stimulant, speeding heart rate and increasing blood pressure, which would make it likely for an erection to occur.
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 10:31 am
Regular bud as you call it is the flower un-pollinated and bud with seeds is the exact same flower but pollinated by the male plant which reduces the THC quality of the bud, i know what the diference is between and indica strain and a satvia strain is ta, and any bud mixed with tobacco is the same bud as if you rolled up a puree and smoked it, it does not ruin the high, and to me at least it does not ruin the taste at all, if anything it should add to the high as nicotine is a much faster acting and much more addictive drug so those cravings are satisfied if your a smoker then the THC wraps its fingers around you, i don't smoke terrible bud despite what you belive neither do my friends or family, the only weed i've ever seen or had that tasted bad was euro hash as they can smuggle it in diesel cans etc which is going to taste shite as it's diesel, and the reason the THC content is higher these days on average is because indica is the most common strain of weed avaliable, at least in the uk, in the 60's satvia was the most prevelant as it was easier to grow etc, the fact that you would say "ive sold bulk quantities for a long time" to a complete stranger over the internet either means your full of shit or a dumbass.

You know you aren't the first person to grow weed, i ment to say hunger receptors, triggers etc whatever the fuck you want to call the things in your brain that trigger hunger, i can't remember what the scientist said exactly, my bad for using the wrong word but if you want to go down that route here goes.

*Eating *So *You *definately *It *End *I *It's *I've *i've *And *Morroco *Amsterdam *You're

That's a good reflection of my interpretation of your general intelligence level coupled with listing me basic facts anyone could know, urban legends (wives tales, myths etc)and the fact that your first repsonse was to get personal and insulting to someone you know nothing about but disagree with so instead of some factual evidence you make assumptions.
    - HippyBoy November 9, 2010, 10:39 am
It does not produce estrogen though which is what you said "it inhibits testosterone growth and accelerates estrogen."
Of course it's copied and pasted i don't have multiple personalities and feel the need to sighn each one of them off when i write an article.

So i'm going to take these studies and peoples (Marihuana and sex: a critical survey.Abel EL.Marijuana: interaction with the estrogen receptor.

Show me some studies or articles to back up what your saying then. So far i have seen none.

Anyway you seem to have taken this whole thing to heart, and my fingers and will to keep typing long responses are hurting bad, if you ever want to have this conversation face to face over a bowl or two give me a shout.

    Peace & love.
    - HippyBoy November 9, 2010, 10:50 am
lol, sold meaning i used to. theres nothing anyone can do about that. even if you were in the FBI.

wrong word? no, thats not even how munchies work. good job trying to be an intellect though, youd be very good at fooling a child.

wow, i dont use capitalization or proper punctuation when im arguing with some dumbass on the internet. i must be a real idiot. right?

if you NEED those things to understand what i'm saying to you, you should just kill yourself.

and you and everyone you smoke, smokes dirt bud. cause if the alternative is smuggled in fucking gas cans, you seriously have no understanding. youre like a kid thats only eaten dog food out of a can, trying to talk to a professional chef about good eating.
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 10:52 am
i copied an excerpt from one just before. you can look up low sperm count linked to inhibiting hormone growth. they did a study that pointed towards what i said earlier.. probably found false by now, like most scientific findings in this area. but they do effect hormone levels. i was commenting on the post, not trying to argue with someone that can only copy/paste articles from google because he doesn't have an understanding of his own.
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 10:56 am
Yeah ok dude read my other reply and pull your head out of your own ass and chill out and cheer up or just stop replying if you think i'm that much of a retard, it's a shame you have that misguided view about me but i won't lose any sleep over it, adios.

    Peace & love.
    - HippyBoy November 9, 2010, 10:56 am

You keep replying i'm going to go smoke the last of my chesse.
    - HippyBoy November 9, 2010, 10:59 am
i couldnt care less about the subject matter. youre just an obnoxious human being.

your invalid argument turned into taking shots at me not using capitalization.

lets recap this magic journey of an argument with an english hippyboy.

my original comment about hormones and weight gain, and the lesbian turnout during pregnancy not being a suprise. (to me)

you arguing pot doesnt make you fat.

my rebuttal that GOOD pot will make you hungry and sleepy, even with 10+ times a day usage. and a few other points against your weight gain argument

you arguing that weed is weed and if youre smoking real weed its all the same.

my rebuttal that, no it isnt

you arguing that you know how some weed can be alot stronger than others, and that you can find an article on the internet about pot not being linked to specific hormonal mutation. (good job! you can attack an argument you werent even making in the first place, so you can divert the loss in argument to somewhere else)

my rebuttal about how that scientific article contradicts your point. because the first thing it mentions is decrease in sperm count, which is a symptom of low testosterone.

then finally, you attempting to insult my intelligence by taking shots at my grammar... "wait, no spelling errors? fuck! oh there! he didnt capitalize anything! this is easy... omg an unofficial abbreviation of "definitely" ATTACK WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT! WE MAY WIN THIS ARGUMENT YET.

congradulations. you tried to be a pot genius and failed.
    - c8r15 November 9, 2010, 11:13 am
i'm too busy making $43 an hour arguing with some dumbass on the internet to smoke. but now i have to go... its the end of my work day, i have to go pick my fiance up from her job. relax and recline with some hydro sour disel, in my big comfy couch, infront of my giant TV.

have fun smoking weed forever alone at your parents house.
