That's what I was going to say...
When she bent over to pick up the dress, I'm guessing the majority of eyes stopped looking at Kate ;)

Public money well spent. . . NOT.

Not your money though is it - I'm happy for my taxes to pay for this.
    - NoShitSherlock April 29, 2011, 11:55 pm
make no mistake we pay takes over here for things i am sure you don't agree with. that being said i don't agree with public money being used for it, but you are correct its not my money.

at 1am my living room was swamped with 6 girls they were watching the wedding the boyfriends and husbands myself included were stuck doing nothing and most of the bars had closed we we went to the liquor store and bought about 700 dollars worth of liquor we then proceeded home to drink until we found the wedding interesting.

I have to ask, how many Brits on this site are pissed that over 20 million pounds (my laptop lacks the appropriate key for the currency symbol) of their tax money funded a wedding for two people with zero political power? The royal family has no business using any of your money, they're already filthy rich and this is an economic rescission! In the year 2011, how can they be allowed to do this?

    I 100% completely agree with your comment...from canada :)
    - PwnzElite April 29, 2011, 5:43 pm
well for one all the money the royal family have its from tax so it makes no difference we still had 2 pay it anyway and 2 it might generate 400mil for the government that they can waste on road works or bail out the banks or put it Icelandic banks... and a few other things thinking about it. And do u know how much money the royal family makes from tourism every year that just gets wasted.
    - stewiz April 29, 2011, 5:44 pm
If you look back through history there is almost always a royal wedding in times of depression and they are kinda having two this year so what does that tell you. On the money side of things it not that much considering how much gets wasted else where.
    - zebidybob April 29, 2011, 9:48 pm
General opinion in Britain is the opposite, finally a good use of public money - as opposed to the Papal visit, Barack Obama visit etc. It brings the country together and is generally just a happy occasion. The royals give far more to the country in tourism than they take from us in taxes anyway.

im a bruins fan i just want another Canadian's opinion on the Montreal Canadians, are we the only one who find them a disgraceful bunch of divers?
    - Tremp20k April 30, 2011, 4:38 am
I hate the canadiens jsut as much as you.
Marchant was an ass but thats his job
Gill is an idiot and gomez is overpaid.
their best player is a rookie and they are an overrated bunch of divers.
    might as well play soccer

i hate the bruins but when i saw them beat the Canadiens i was Extremely happy.

So pandering to the already rich hasn't become a waste of money? You don't think the royal family should pay for their own weddings like everyone else? If Stephen Harper took 30 million of our dollars to through a party, we'd be raging.
    - CrazyJay April 30, 2011, 12:12 pm
But they have zero political power, they should have no right to do anything with that money, don't you think? Doesn't matter how much they generate from tourism.
    - CrazyJay April 30, 2011, 12:20 pm
see i dont like a lot of teams but i can respect them, the flyers for instance however i have no respect for the canadians
    - Tremp20k April 30, 2011, 7:33 pm
Yea, The Flyers are greaseballs but atleast they have decent talent like briere, giroux,Gagne

    they're good and don't dive

and toronto is the only good canadian team

Ottawa-Edmonton:lose on purpose for draft picks
    Montreal:Bunch of diver's and crybabys
Canucks:Stacked team who chokes in the playoffs
Flames:Team is falling apart due to old age and terrible GM skills.

And i love alot of the US teams

and there not real canadians they are "Canadiens" :P
    - PwnzElite April 30, 2011, 7:49 pm
I too would be a bit annoyed if David Cameron decided to just have a party with public money, but the monarchy is different - it's difficult to explain. :/
    - NoShitSherlock April 30, 2011, 10:13 pm
Could you try to explain it to me? These people are born into royalty, spoon fed everything their whole lives just so they can be a symbol of a barbaric time, where your people could be thrown into dungeons or executed without a trial on a pure whim. There's a reason they're not in power anymore. We should stop acting like they are, don't you think?
    - CrazyJay May 1, 2011, 3:13 am
People should not be judged on the circumstances of their birth, but the content of their character - and it seems to me that they are nice people, born into a life of servitude to their countries (admittedly a very luxurious life). When are you referring to when you say "Barbaric Time"? - Because i can assure a lot has changed in Britain since the middle-ages. Nowadays, the British Monarchy are a tangible symbol of Britain and give British People something patriotic to cling onto. Now that they're "not in power" they aren't politically affiliated and so are dissociated from unpopular Governmental decisions. The Queen also still has many powers, they are just not often exercised, the Queen is the head of the Church of England, and can dissolve Government for example. I guess it's fundamentally a case of pride and tradition. The Royal Family has always been there and played massive roles in seeing the country through 2 world wars and they offer stability to the country in times of hardship (depressions, wars etc.) No, i don't think we should stop acknowledging the royal family, it's what we are and what we've always been and I don't think Britain would be the same without them. As I said, it's hard to explain, but there really aren't many people in Britain bitter about the Royal Family. We watch them grow up, and old, and people are just happy to have them there. :)

    No they didn't...
    - NoShitSherlock April 30, 2011, 8:42 am
Don't bother with him he's an American and thinks he knows more than people from the UK lol
    - MalverdeAl100 April 30, 2011, 8:44 am
Woops, my bad, I read the article wrong. It was a private practice wedding last week.
    - Ertrov April 30, 2011, 12:01 pm
And you go down once again in my respectometer. You were getting pretty high up, my Mexican friend. (which also makes you American)
    - Ertrov April 30, 2011, 12:02 pm
I know i didn't mean to make fun of Americans i was just saying because judging from what NoShitSherlock said i would imagine he was from the UK. Therefore he would know more about this than Americans
    - MalverdeAl100 April 30, 2011, 2:42 pm
Well, then, I'd appreciate it if you had tried to be less insulting in your point.
    - Ertrov April 30, 2011, 4:21 pm
