This is something I don't normally do, but I want absolutely no debate on this post. I'm just extremely curious, as we are right about up to the election, who Sharenator would elect as President: Obama or Romney?

If you want to throw your lot with other actual candidates, such as Gary Johnson or Jill Stein, feel free : ).

I'll keep a running tally of votes cast. Just vote once for your candidate, that's all! This will run until midnight Nov. 6th : ).

Romney: 11
[johnecash, killuminati, prophethorris, casper667, Carrell12, Tyrus, imfrikknbad, kaBjj101, iceman0305, sgocke CallMeGoogle]

Obama: 9
[Logos385, BCARS2701, CTUDirector, Kemo79, MalverdeAl100, Wispy, DontTouchMyPuddin, 24paperwings, Dixienourmous69]

Gary Johnson: 3
[triclebickle, Jofus1992, xRAYZ0Rx]

Edit: If after a few days your vote isn't counted, just reply again and let me know. Your name will be listed if your vote is counted. Also, order of candidates will be done, from this point forward, by number of votes. Thanks!

Romney won on Sharenator! Voting over. Thanks, guys!

I am a british republican. But we're not a democracy anyway, and that's not likely to change.
By the way, i can't stand our national anthem.

your elections are weird something about parliament being dissolved or something?
also of course we're obsessed with our elections we are deciding who to put in charge of one of the largest militaries, economies and a ton of other stuff its a big decision and we'll probably screw it up like always

Nah. They work a lot simpler than American elections.

In each local area (basically like a town or group of small towns), there are representatives for the area called "MPs" (Members of Parliament). These will normally represent one of the political parties (The main ones are "The Labour Party" and the "Conservatives" (aka. Tories). There are also the Liberal Democrats, but they are not foreseeably going to come into power.), or some MPs are independent.

During the elections, you vote for the MP who you think best represents your community. The one with the most votes takes the "seat" in parliament for that area. The party with the most seats has the majority rule, and rules the country for 4 years. They will have self assigned Ministers etc, and the Prime Minister (head of party). That's it.

You have NO VOTE on the Prime Minister themselves, only your local MP getting the seat. Also note above that this "majority rule" doesn't cause the other MPs to have no effect. All the seats will still represent the country together.

The thing you were saying about being dissolved - that's a bit of old history there. In 1215, the Magna Carta was created. Basically this was a charter, or contract, with the people of the land, that says that the Royal in charge MUST listen to what the people want. Basically, the royals can't just dictate the country and pass laws - the people must agree. It basically gives people the power. The people are represented by what we now know as MPs.

In the 1600s, one of the kings (can't remember from the top of my head) got very angry with parliament and dissolved them. Quite soon after, he found himself in a lot of problems and it was called back together.

This charter makes the whole system quite interesting. As the tradition goes, the King or Queen rules the country (the royal was chosen to rule by God). The Lords (and Ladies) are the next people down who are higher up in the whole hierarchy. In the houses of parliament (where MPs discuss things), there are two sections. The House of Lords, and the House of Commons. The House of Commons are where the MPs are. After all, they are just normal people. Commons are not allowed to enter the House of Lords - and Lords, Ladies, even the Queen, are NOT allowed to enter the house of commons. (There is a ceremony in here, where the Queen will walk towards the house of commons, and the doors will literally be shut in her face.)

Laws are suggested, debated etc within the house of commons - by the people. The next stage moves the bill to the House of Lords. (Also note, no filming is allowed in the House of Lords). Lords do NOT represent the people - their title is inherited. Lords can review the bill, push it back and suggest changes, but the CANNOT refuse to pass it. Once it's passed the House of Lords, it moves to the Queen. Here, the ruler of the country has no choice but to sign the bill to pass the law. She may also pass it back down for review, but is VERY limited. She is NOT allowed to say no. Power to the people!!

I hope you learned something interesting and new :)

Gary Johnson, I couldn't care less about his chances of winning. I would rather keep my self respect and vote for a candidate that had little chance of winning than give in and vote for the lessor of two evils.

To say the Republicans hate everyone is just silly. A vote for the democrats is a vote for a government who thinks they know how to spend your money better than you do. A vote for republicans is a vote letting the government know you know whats best for your money.

No what I said is a fact. Republicans don't hate everyone. Fact no matter how much you wish it not to be true. It's a fancy democrats want a larger government. It's a fact. Nothing to debate, these are facts

"A vote for the democrats is a vote for a government who thinks they know how to spend your money better than you do."
Absolutely opinion. There is no quantitive measurement, only subjective qualitative judgement.

Also opinion. No quantitive measurement, only subjective qualitative judgement.

Please stop making judgements here, this is not the place for that. I am done with this conversation here.

You have said you are done with this conversation, only to start it up again, I no longer know when you mean it or not.
Fact Democrats want larger government. They want more programs to help the people paid for by the tax payers.
Fact Republicans think the people can take care of them self. Republicans know that if you don't tax the people to death, like the democrats want to do, the people don't need the government to take care of them.
I would truly like to debate you more, but talking to you about politics is like talking to a wall. Your mind is made up, your party is more important than the country to you. You want to do the same thing over and over again and are expecting different results. According to Albert Einstein, you are suffering from insanity.

you know you keep talking about the same things over and over and arguing with people about things you personally view as wrong and force them into a debate in an attempt to change their minds. doesn't arguing with people and trying to bait them into debates over and over and over, when clearly everyone doesn't want to count as part of this rule? sorry Johny boy but by your own logic it looks like you're a nutter ;) hope you enjoy having another couple years with obama! :)

Obama has sold more guns to the drug cartels than all of the other Nobel Peace Prize winners put together.
Obama has finally balanced the budget. The national debt is now the same size as the economy.
When Ronald Reagan left office in 1989 it was the end of an era. When Obama leaves office in 2013 it will be the end of an error.
President Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana purchase for 233 million dollars. Obama spent more than that while you were reading this.
When ObamaPhone drops a call it blames BushPhone.

My vote is for obama. Romney is a liar and changes his opinions way to often for me to consider him a good vote. i also believe anyone who's attitude toward environmental issues is to say "ahhh screw it" is not fit to lead. sorry but when it comes to energy and the environment Romney can and will fuck us over.

      Lets talk about presidential lies, here is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to hop the president lied to you;
      And lets get to some of the broken promises too;
      1. Increase the capital gains and dividends taxes for higher-income taxpayers

      2. Expand the child and dependent care credit

      3. Create a foreclosure prevention fund for homeowners

      4. Provide option for a pre-filled-out tax form

      5. Create a mortgage interest tax credit for non-itemizers

      6. Require automatic enrollment in 401(k) plans

      7. Require automatic enrollment in IRA plans

      8. Create a retirement savings tax credit for low incomes

      9. End income tax for seniors making less than $50,000

      10. End no-bid contracts above $25,000

      11. Create a $60 billion bank to fund roads and bridges (One of my personal favorites since it effected my business. A small business where I have not been able to hire a secretary in the last 3 years. But hey I didn't build that according to Obama. On the bright side of the 4,500 real estate appraisers in the state of Alabama in 2007, I am one of the remaining 2,200 that still have a job no thanks to Obama.

      12. Repeal the Bush tax cuts for higher incomes (i love how you blame bush but don't blame obama for keeping policies made by bush)

      13. Phase out exemptions and deductions for higher earners (another example of obama saying what ever it takes to get the little guys vote, yet he forgot about us once in office)

      14. Sign the Employee Free Choice Act, making it easier for workers to unionize

      15. Forbid companies in bankruptcy from giving executives bonuses (Yet another broken promise to the people)

      16. Allow workers to claim more in unpaid wages and benefits in bankruptcy court

      17. Allow imported prescription drugs

      18. Prevent drug companies from blocking generic drugs

      19. Allow Medicare to negotiate for cheaper drug prices

      20. Appoint federal-level coordinator to oversee all federal autism efforts (He will say anything to get votes)

      21. Double federal funding for cancer research

      22. Direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct a comprehensive study of federal cancer initiatives

      23. Provide the CDC $50 million in new funding to determine the most effective approaches for cancer patient care

      24. Fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

      25. Create a National Commission on People with Disabilities, Employment, and Social Security

      26. Change federal rules so small businesses owned by people with disabilities can get preferential treatment for federal contracts.

      27. Reduce the threshhold for the Family and Medical Leave Act from companies with 50 employees to companies with 25 employees

      28. Provide a $1.5 billion fund to help states launch programs for paid family and medical leave

      29. Require employers to provide seven paid sick days per year (Would some of my stevedore friends on the docs like this. Well Obama lost some hard working salt of the earth votes on this one. )

If you say you are done, please be done. If you can't follow your own rules, how can you expect others to do so. Kinda like Obama, the rules you apply for him are not the same you give to Romney.

so, a congratulations is in order, for the longest reply i've ever seen, and for consistency in your responses for me to know it was you :D
i suppose a +1 would be in order, not too sure why; but hey, why not? :P

I would have voted for Romney, but the guy just flip flops too much.-------- So you are saying you don't want an open minded leader who has the ability to change his mind? Interesting and to be expected.

Well if you ask an outsiders point of view you Americans really didn't have much choice . It was either a proven successful businessman who has a weird religion and is socially awkward or a really cool dude with loads of celeb friends who has never had a proper job in his life, but his wife is proper cool too!
