I've had insomnia sense I was 13, that makes it 3 years andcounting:( if you don't count the ten minutes every few weeks. seeing as the ten minutes makes me feel 50 times worse then I usualy do I don't count it.
definately an exaggeration like mikeyninja pointed out.. ember is grossly exaggerating.
what s/hes saying about herself is impossible, and breaks sleep deprivation world records. insomnia is not a disease, it only describes a symptom.
if you stay awake past a few days you develop temporary dimentia. believe me i know, i had really scary hallucinations and forgot weird things.
inomnia is more about the quality of sleep. they define it by "how long since your last consistant sleep?
less than a week? youre a transient insomnia.
a week to a month? you have acute insomnia
more than a month? chronic insomnia.
note, this is not about time since your last sleep. this is since your last uninterupted sleep. interupted sleep means waking up every half hour or so, unable to get a good nights rest.
insomnia is not a biological condition that enables you to stay awake for unnaturally long periods of time like the commenter is claiming.
i used to have chronic insomnia. lasted on and off for about 5 years.
For me, somewhere around 48 hours give or take a few. It was a summer like 3-4 years ago. I didn't drink coffee or anything, I just did stayed up just to do it, it was weird.
Funny story actually about it, I was playing GTA III or vice city or something, all I know is I had a machine gun and I was killing people on the street, had 3 stars or something.. then I fell asleep right in the middle of shooting up people.. I wake up and the controller is still in my hand and my GTA character is at the hospital or w/e. lol,
4 days... we were in the field and i kept getting pulled for guard duty and every other little detail they could think of... that whole army thing you are given 4 hours to sleep every 24 hours? yeah, not always applies
Something like 45 hours straight. I had school on a Friday, hung out with friends till about 2 in the morning, was leaving for a trip at 4 am, then didn't get back till after midnight the second day
i diddnt get asleep for the entire night. i was definitley awake all night (it was the most boring 9 hours of my life) and i know i was awake because i am a "lucid dreamer", and was doing reality checks.
anyway, i was awake for the entire night, but in morning i felt like i had the entire nights sleep, and had a great day the next day, wasnt annoyed or short tempered or anything. so about 40 hours for me :)
57 hours. I was playing minecraft and working on a massive pit mine and my castle with 4 mob towers i'm still working on it thou but i have finished the towers and the castle and my pit mine is still a work in progress.
Stayed up, with no sleep? About 3 days straight.
With a little bit of sleep (I'm taking little bit very lightly. About 10-20 minutes of dozing off, not good sleep): About two weeks.
I think my record was something around 52 hours? Not quite sure but it was something like that. During the summer I usually stay up for 36 hours quite frequently because I have so much free time I don't see a point in sleeping when there's so much to do. =]
longest time stayed up, ummm over 43 hours playing minecraft.

the sad thing is i only found about 7 :(
my record was an honest 52 hours. without one minute of sleep. the first night i stayed up playing video games, nothing too special. the second night i had planned to go to sleep, but me and my friends got lost about 30 miles from my house and my car broke down. it was cold as hell outside so i was afraid to go to sleep. had to walk 30 miles all the way back home because none of us had phones at the time. talk about a fucked situation lol
I once stayed up for about 79 hours (A little over three days) I managed to get by because I smoked a shit load of weed and it took most of the edge off of my eyes, but for the final few hours it was just weird, started to hallucinate and take on a sort of euphoric sense (light had trails and such) finally I collapsed into bed and within probably 20 seconds I was out and I slept like a rock for 15 hours.
I stayed up for at least 48 hours playing games... I had to get to #1! :P
I read an article once about a man that hasn't slept for over 11,000 days. It is the longest time ever known for somebody not to sleep. I have since looked for the article again but never found it :( He hadn't been to sleep since like 1970 or something like that. Sucks to be him!
4 days, but then I also had some really strong acid. Kids stay away from acid or for 4 days you might think of yourself as a midget who cant reach anything on the top shelf.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! That sounds like a moment you will never forget. I will always remember when the cool aid man busted threw my wall, and gave us beer. Later on it turned out the "wall" he busted into was a "door" and the cool aid man was not really the cool aid man, but a friend of mine in a red shirt. oh fuzzy memories. . .
If you want an adventure, try tripping with 100,000 of your closest friends at a University of Alabama football game. . . during haloween when everyone is dressed up . . .

Before anyone "diagnoses" me, it was out of choice that I slept so little, not inability.

Edit- After revised searching technique I have found it!

This was in 2007, add 4 years to that.
