Surely if you're talking about a generic soft drink you wouldn't call it by a brand name. e.g. if you specifically wanted an orange juice, you wouldn't call it Coke. Seems a bit odd.
Anyway, in Glasgow (Scotland) we have a couple of generic names for carbonated soft drinks. Ginger and Scoosh.
p.s. Irn Bru, the best soft drink in the world.
In SouthWestern Ontario we call it Pop in general eg. "it's all pop" otherwise it's Pepsi or Coke - whatever the brand is you want - eg can you get me a Diet Pepsi please?!" ;)
Mtn. Dew, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, and all other carbonated fountain drinks you can find at a fast food places are pop. Premium shit like Jones and Stewarts is soda.
..I must admit I don't think that there is a general term for that. Probably 'Limo' or .. 'was zum Mischen' which means sth like 'something to mix alcohol with' :D.
i'd just call it by the brand name, i don't think i've ever been in the situation where i've had to call it by the generic term but i think i'd just call it a soft drink :/
