I work for a debt settlement company and have for about 2 & 1/2 years - we sometimes get numbers passed to us from clients who are getting harassed by strange numbers. When we call them back to negotiate the debts and settle them , they are usually the same - a scam company who purchases info on people and then call them constantly with the story that they are collecting on a past debt that is owed. When you ask for verification of that debt they will either make up something , or use the info that they purchased and say that you are about to be taken to court / garnished for missing those payments. The are almost ALWAYS from India and they say they work for an attorneys firm who is ready to go to court tomorrow.... Once I asked them - ok , what county are you filing the papers in since I knew where our client lived - they got belligerent and tried to pressure me with some bs about how we needed to make payment arrangements. The bottom line is do not answer your phone for a number you don't recognize - Anyone who needs to get in touch with you will leave a message. Anyone who tries to tell you something that sounds funny, make them prove beyond ANY doubt that it is true and no matter what they say , its only a threat without and basis. We have even turned the tide and since we have the numbers, call them and harass them like they have never known. I once spent 4 hours dialing the same number and cussing them out. its actually therapeutic to do it. If you start saying things like "does your mother know you are trying to steal from hardworking people" and ":you should just kill yourself you piece of shit "

huh, thanks for the heads up. when i got my new phone number, i kept getting calls from creditors all over the U.S. asking for some guy. this went on for months, even when i told the same numbers several times that they had the wrong number

i once got into a fight with a identity thief he called me saying i had won a $500 gift card for wal-mart. He just needed my card info and since i had just shut my card off(due to fights with the bank) i gave it to him. He asked me if i had any more card numbers to give i told him to hold on a moment and found one other old rebate card and gave him that to. He asked for more and i told i had no others he told me to suck his dick and hung up. A few days later the same guy called me to "verify" my card numbers for the gift card and i told him i was not happy with the way i was treated by the last "employee" that had called me and i did not want it anymore. When he heard this we stated fighting over the phone he called me a stupid American who stupid to give my card numbers over the phone. So i told him they where all old cards and that's why he calling me so could get a up to date card. that pissed him off even more so argued for a few more minutes and finally i got pissed and told him to do what his people do best and go strap a bomb to his chest and blow himself up for some gay virgins in hell. He hung up on me. :D
