true lolz oh and europe would definately win with cars mainly because they cars are made for speed such as a lamborghinis and ferraris and porche and mercedes and bmw when european cars get to us they have to be downgraded
Europe like the US has many great cars. Europe like the US has many crap cars too. People only remember the really good ones and never seem to remember the bad one's. Top Gear was nice enough to remind us of one of the worst cars Europe has ever made. Those who watch top gear know where this is going....

Why are we English so shit at coping with anything other than overcast skies and drizzle?
As soon as the sun comes out it's "too hot," and every single one of us gets sunburned and ends up looking like a spanked arse, the roads melt and all the trains break down.
As soon as there's an inch of snow all the cars crash into each other, all the trains de-rail and all the idiots go and buy every single loaf of bread and pint of milk on the shelves - case in point, my cousin's mom asked her to go and get another pint of milk on her way round for dinner as they "only have 4 in the fridge."
This happens every year! Surely the idiots in government would have realised by now that this happens every year, without exception, and they should perhaps invest in things like more grit lorries and trains that work in the wet and heat (or just plain work in general).
Hell, the French cope with this shit all the time, and they're French!

The reason many of us don't hold passports is because there are only 3 main countries in North America (USA, Canada, and Mexico). While you all have some 60+ countries in Europe. Besides no one really wants to go to Mexico at the moment and you didn't need a passport to go to Canada until just recently.

so you are saying what is popular is whats better? berline 1940 it was popular to burn books, does that make it wright? i can't give you soccer due to the fact that yes it is more popular around the world but my question is this. if you live in a country where you only make $1,000 a year what would you do? buy all the equipment needed for a proper game of football, or just go buy a ball and play soccer? part of the reason, not all of the reason, soccer is so poppular is that all you need is a ball to play. not the case with football. you are correct that soccer is the worlds most poppular sport. i have been to a Man U game before. great time. the passion and singing were wonderful. i can now die a happy man knowing i have seen at least one propper soccer game. in the same breath come to an american football game. not the pro game, i mean a college game in the deep south where tail gaiting was invented. Ever seen a $500,000.00 motor home? its common place at an University of Alabama game is Tuscalosa. the party for a football games usually starts Wensday before the game that is played on Sat. as a certified appraiser i can not say that one football it better than the other. they are diffrent. its like comparing apples to oranges.

correction... bugatti veyron SuperSport is the fastest car in the world... the last time it was maxed out it reached 268 mph, 1,200 horsepower and STILL has normal car stuff (like windscreen wipers and a radio, leather seats etc)

And I'd only seen the Saleen in a 50 Cent video and being driven by Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty (neither of which are great endorsements). Basically a long winded way of saying 'nobody wants one!'.
Why is speed the be all and end all anyway? Your figures show the Veyron is the fastest accelerating of both all of them (i.e it would beat them away from the lights) and you'd probably nead a reeeeeallllly long empty road for the SSC's 4mph extra to let it overtake.
As regards the price, my only souce is Top Gear, but VW who own Bugatti are going to make a loss even if they sell every one and only produced it to see if it could be done and to make them selves look good. This means it costs less than it cost to buy and produce all the parts that go inside it. I doubt that SSC can afford to sell its cars at a loss, meaning your paying for more than you're actually getting under the bodywork.

yes the cars are purpose made sports cars. i hope they do make money. the veryone is whats called a show car. its there to get peoples attention and draw them into a show room. thats why its made at a loss.

To be fair it doesn't diminish the achievement of the Veyron to be 4mph slower and still have a luxury interior with leather and aluminium finishing, cd player and as you say a heavy 4wd system. Hope they've heard about it the SSC and will do a stripped out one, but I doubt it :p

SSC is in the process of building a luxury version. a funny side not is that there will be a stripped down version of the Veryone on the way. i wonder which will be quicker. thats a race i am looking forward to.

Since one of the few things Europe and the USA agree on is that capitalism rocks, isn't the worth of something dependant on how much you can get somebody to pay you for it. Unless SSC are generously selling the car for less than they think anybody would be willing to pay?

the watch question would depend on price. here is another example of the point i am trying to show you;
if you buy a new car and then customise it do you think you will get back full price? you love the nazie(not you but i think you get it) paint job, the nazie rims(spinners i am sure) and the nazie shifter. you spent a lot of money. but the public on large will not care unless you can find some one just like you.

you can not be a buyer of your own goods if you want it to be considered "amrs leanth". the key word in arms leanth would be a typical average buyer and not a fan. go ask any local real estate agent or a land appraiser. it might cost 1,000 but it may only be worth 100. depends on the market. the average market. i sure you understand that a star trex themed van may sell for much higher at a star trek convention than it would sitting in a typical car lot.

OK I may be in the wrong for having got sidetracked into trying to argue that the comparison of prices makes one or the other better, which isn't necessarily true since they're meant for different things. The SSC from what I can see is a bare bones racer, and performance is its whole purpose, where as the Veyron has the European grand tourer tradition it has to meet too (Im guessing if you used the SSC to tour the USA you'd end up with a sore arse and not much luggage, just like if you used the veyron on a track you'd get beaten by the SSC).
I was intending to defend the price of the European cars; you said "you have a lot of cars that cost a lot more, but don't produce like the SSC". Since there was a waiting list for the Veyron last I heard, you can assume that there is a market for people who will pay that much for it because they feel that it offers other benefits as well as performance, such as comfort, the prestige (or snob) value of the name, reliability, and Im guessing in no small part the ability to show that you can afford to spend 1,700,000 on a car.

I think you bit Dannyls head off a bit quickly here Johnecash, He's just pointing out that where you choose as the cut off point of the list affects how it makes the two countries look. So only paying attention to the top 6 uni's makes the uk look better than it would when you look at the top 10.

Wow, you missed my point entirely. You seem so consumed by proving people to be wrong that you don't notice when they are saying something good about America. That's exactly what i was pointing out - if i only show a certain number it makes UK look better, i then even mention that the next 10 after those 6 are all in the US. Math's point was that you only pointed out the top 3, whereas if you looked at the top 10 it'd show a different story.

I dont think I did miss the point. The original post was about what was invented or created in either Europe or the USA, not who took whose creations and made them the biggest. It was 'the bad guys', the Argentines I mean. It was a US ship from WWII which had been sold to Argentina after the war. It survived Pearl Harbour and the whole war, got nicknamed the luckiest ship in the US navy, then when it was sold it was renamed the Belgrano.

Only recently have we had any need for them, and we've got two Nimitz-class-rivalling carriers on the way. it is a fuck lot better, in america if you live in a certain area you may have to go to a shitty school. when buying a house you have to also find what houses are in the same school district as the schools you want your kids to go to. when kids are forced to go to a certain school depending on their geographic location the schools dont care how good they do, because the kids have to go there whether its a good school or not. with a voucher system schools actually try, if they're a shit school nobody is going to go there and they have to close. when kids are allowed to choose their school they test way higher. "no child left behind" is bullshit. the american schools suck in comparrison to other major powers. Europe wins this one.

Actually when i went to elementary school i went to the public one across town because it was better rather than the one that was about a mile from my house. So either im a magician of sorts or your info is off.
In England we get to choose our schools. Generally they need to be within a certain distance but the distance is quite a lot. There are also some schools where the child will need to sit an exam to gain entry, like the one my girlfriend went to. That is more common in London though where there are a lot of people in a smaller area.

Obviously the original idea was just a rough comparison, but clearly some major factors have been left out. Art is quite clearly one of such cases.
Europe far outclasses the US in quality of art. Was Pablo Picasso American? No. Didn't think so. Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, Dali, Rembrandt, Constable etc. Of course there are some very good american artists, for example Andy Warhol and Georgia O'Keeffe, but quite clearly not nearly as many of the same caliber as all of the great Europeans.

Well you said in a previous post "Ukraine is part of Europe, therefore Chernobyl is Europe's Fault". I'm just trying to argue that geographic location is not the deciding factor in determining responsibility in this instance. It happened while Ukraine was under the control of a non-European country. The only analogy I can think of is saying that the Boston Massacre is America's fault because it happened in what is now the USA, even though it happened at a time when the United States didn't exist and the area in which it happened was under the control of a foreign power.

I do get you. I think Western Russia is sometimes called European Russia. But you yourself provided a list of countries within Europe (Which must have come from some source, I know I couldnt rattle them off) and if we have to defend Russia too we've got no chance :D

country and state borders may change, but as far as i know continetal borders have been the same for quite a while. i think i see what you are getting at, and i hope you can understand what i am trying to say. also is western russia not part of europe? remeber this discussion is USA vs Europe. yes i have been to new orleans. i am helping tearn down 16 city blocks to build a new hospital. it looks great down there. the saints just won the super bowl. but i guess you have no idea do you. i can send recent pics taken last week. we are doing fine. what should had been done by not at chernobly is all the contaminated materials should have been proprly dealt with, but instead Europe has done nothing. well done guys.
