i used to be able to jump into water that cold... makes you feel like youre not inside your own body... (alot of people think its insanely hard) for a normal person yea... but if you get your body used to the cold, from living in it long enough... its crazy what you can do without getting cold... i lived in an area that got 60 degrees below zero.. i didnt own a car, i had to walk everywhere... worked outside.. never dressed for it. after a while you get used to it, when it was zero degrees out.. id wear shorts and a t-shirt or i'd be sweating... put me in 60 degrees and id be sweating bullets...
but... when i saw that guy dig the hole... dive in it, and come out the other side... i was amazed. it is SO hard to move effectively in the water when youre body is fighting that hard to maintain a temperature. best i could do was tread water.. maybe doggie paddle. that dude must expose himself to some frigid cold on a regular basis to do that.
that water isnt as cold as it looks... if it's fresh water it cant be below 32 degrees (F) (or it would be ice) im sure the air around him is much colder... what makes water different though is how that cold penetrates the skin, but if youre used to walking around in 70-80 degrees below 0... 32 dont seem too bad, even with the penetrating cold of water.
just going on the thin ice like that is no big deal. canadians (including myself) LOVE to do that! but going in the water like that, this dude is hardcore! that made me shiver and its -37c outside!
