Let’s start with some stats. On average an individual blinks 10 times per minute and the average length of a blink is 400 milliseconds.
Let’s say you went to see Harry Potter and the Death Hallows Part 2. It’s a 130 minutes (7800 seconds) long movie with one of the largest budgets in 2011 - $250 million dollars. Miss one second of the movie and you’ll miss $32,000 dollars worth of footage. Blink once and you’ll miss 400 ms of a movie or $12,800 dollars worth of footage. If you don’t stop blinking, you’ll make 1300 blinks during the entire movie. The value of movie you missed because you couldn’t stop blinking? $16,640,000 US DOLLARS. That is just one movie. If you’re like me, you’ve probably wasted billions worth of movie time in your life just because you couldn’t refrain from blinking while watching movies.
Before we cause another global economic crisis, it’s time to stop being so wasteful. Since I love crunching numbers, here’s a list of 44 movies released in 2011 that did cost more than $10,000 dollars per second to make. You have to be especially cautious about blinking when watching these movies.
