Portal ftw. I was so confused the first time I played it and i found the room with THE CAKE IS A LIE all over it
in portal you are in some test with a device that uses portals to teleport you. you are told if you can survive all the mazes using the portal gun you can be freed and there will be cake. you find hidden rooms where it says the cake is a lie all over the walls...as if it was wrote by other people who had the same test... its basically impossible to survive and when you do your supposed to die and never get cake!
I suspect many, if not all of the test subjects have actually been clones. So you may seem like the same person and have the same memories ... but you're a clone. I also believe that GLADoS' goal has been to systematically train the subjects to free her. (Possibly by ending her existence.) Theories abound.

Ok, here's how it works according to the developers. At the end of Portal 1, Glad0s, who is still alive, somehow pulls you back into the facility and freezes you for several hundred years. You then wake up and Aperture science is decaying, in Portal 2. It's stupid, but that's the plot they went with.

its from a game called Portal.
It was a new type of game, so it was technically experimental. It turned out a huge, HUGE success.
It spread like wild-fire, especially across the internet.
Its about an experiment, where you have this "portal gun" (ASHPD - Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device) which fires out two portals. What goes in one, comes out the other, and vice versa.
At the end of the experiment, you are promised cake. Then, instead, there is something else.
Im not saying because of a spoiler alert xD.
There are doodles and stuff behind the walls saying "the cake is a lie", implying there were other people there who found this out too.
The cake is a lie is a meme purely created from this game, and has now gone further to even be an expression, describing a false promise...

"I was told i would get a pay rise after my first year..."
"The cake is a lie, my friend, the cake is a lie..."
