The Sharenator Town Hall Meeting.

Sharenator.com > The Sharenator Town Hall Meeting.
I created this topic, so all members, Mods and regular members alike, can come and discuss one of the most debated and recent conflicts of this site: Post guidelines.

Use this threat to post your opinions of it. I'm sure Paul and Darius will come and offer their views on it as well.

Just remember, Sharenator's strongest point is it's COMMUNITY. So, consider this an open forum to discuss this topic. Remember, your input can help influence this site. Paul and Darius take all of our ideas and opinions into consideration.

Just remember, keep it clean. NO FLAMING AND NO HARASSING OTHER MEMBERS.

NOW...

Now... This is how I truly feel on this...

Now this is my opinion, and I'm sure others share it, and others don't, but MY OPINION is that if it is labeled NSFW, then it doesn't belong on this website. This site has made its reputation on sharing a lot of things, flash games, pic dumps, funny videos, ect... I'm just worried that if someone does a "NSFW" picdump (much like the one posted above), then sooner or later, its just going to consume this website. I came onto this website (from school) as a highschool senior almost 4 years ago. I came on because it was a fun place to share and view things from around the internet. If I wanted to see a bunch of horny dudes snicker and stare at pictures of chicks in their bras and panties, then I would go to someplace like 4chan and ebaumsworld. I came to sharenator because it was the complete opposite.

Again, I am not against anything in bras and panties. I'm just stating that if you put NSFW on it, it doesn't belong on this site. I know a lot of people came to this website while at school (granted, they should've been studying...), but if we mix in adult posts with the rest of the content of this site, then it sort of alienates a big part of this community. Not only that, but I'm sure this site will be blocked due to that.

I personally believe in keeping sharenator tasteful. I'm not against T and A, but I think it should be tasteful. If there is a chick in a bikini, and it happens to be part of a joke, or if it happens to be in a video (beer commercial, fail video, ect...), then I have no issue with it. But if there are posts of scantily clad women just for the sake of posting scantily clad women, then I feel that there are other places for that kind of material.

I've already suggested that Paul and Darius program some sort of warning system, or some sort of messaging system, that will inform the topic creator of why his post might contain objectionable material, but I know they are swamped as it is with Sharenator V2 (yes, it is coming).

But again, this post is for you all to post your views, and tastefully debate, agree, or disagree on it.

I haven't been on in a while. I'm a little shocked to see what ya'll have come to, fellahs. I'll tell you what will really ruin and break down this site and that is the bickering. This used to be a family, guys. Everyone stuck their necks out for each other. I've been subjected to random down-rating as well, and that has been my hint as to what to post and what not to post. We're all intelligent people and no one should have to spell it out for you. If a post gets deleted, you should take the hint that something was considered inappropriate. Pointing fingers, name-calling, and being ignorant as to what the mods clearly want (whether it is written out ad naseum or not) is what will be truly unhealthy for this site.

Don't downrate someone's posts just because you don't like them. Bite the bullet and give credit where credit is due. If the post is truly crappy however, then downrate to your little heart's content.

Let's unite again, sharenator family. Let's put this dark chapter behind us, let these things go, and move on.

(For my two-cents on the subject at hand, I personally don't like feeling uncomfortable going through random posts with my loved ones next to me and coming across borderline nudity. There are other sites that welcome those things. If you guys need the lines to be clearer, I'm sure the developers would be happy to accommodate that need. But let's not start a shitstorm about it. It can be discussed civilly and without rancor.)

That being said, I love you guys. Chin up.

Some people on here hold grudges and downrate someone elses post just because of something they've said or done in the past. I really wish your welcome back wouldn't have to be like this :/

S'ok, sugar. No skin off my nose. This is just like seeing your family fight over something that is ultimately not important. It's about pictures on a screen. It's about internet points that mean NOTHING irl. In the grand scheme of things, it's truly just silly. :p

If there were more people like you on here we probably would've never have got to this

I honestly have no objection to this kind of material, but I do have an objection to it being posted here all the time, I swear this is coming more and more like /b/ by the day, soon all we will see is dicks, ponies and tits.

As for you're suggestion on an 18+ section Kev, It's a good idea, but it will still be on the site, and honestly I'd never go there neither would most people, and probably waste more of Paul and Darius's time when they could be working on something we need rather than something that a small few want

Bottom line, even though this stuff is tagged NSFW (most of the time) and then gives people the choice to view it or not, I don't agree with it being posted, however, I make the choice not to open the post, as everyone else who doesn't wish to view the material should also do.

And maybe it's time to add a few things to the ToS, because this is just getting out of hand

Perhaps a tool allowing the poster to be warned that some mod(s) think their content is NSFW before it gets taken down could be implemented. People looking at the post could see a little tag next to it warning that it could potentially be NSFW. Perhaps ordinary viewers(or just other mods) could "uprate" or "downrate" the NSFW status.

The problem is that the term NSFW itself is subjective. It could be cleared up in the ToS, but that could lead to disagreement, and I don't want otherwise good content to be taken out of this site simply because it barely fell within the perameters for NSFW. Which is why I think that the overall best solution is your other suggestion of more transparency within the mod community (www.sharenator.com/A_change_is_in_order/ ).

The only problem I forsee is that if there is a catagory for "spam" some of the more...overzealous...mods could simply take down a post that wasn't spam by putting it in the "spam" category. Similar to taking something down for no given reason. I can't imagine many mods would want to keep looking through the spam logs to check for that sort of an abuse of power.

I agree with everything you said and that was my viewpoint when i brought it up and now there is the whole shit storm of stuff. I think most people happen to be like us and find this in school for whatever reason. If we want this site to grow we have to keep that in mind.

I'm informing Paul of whats going on as I type this. Hopefully we can get some clarity on this issue and quickly resolve it.

I agree with WRAPPEDinBACON's opinion. There are no place for such content in this site, because such content doesn't add anything to the Sharenator.

Especially, looking at the evolution of this site from the developer point of view, there will be no place for such content at the Sharenator in the future. :)

Tomorrow, I will try to discuss this issue in person with Paulius and Darius.

i agree with everything there. simple as that. i feel that mods need to maybe give reasons as to why we delete stuff. for example after it is deleted maybe have a section that pops up asking for the reason. if it is marked as spam then it is instantly deleted if it is for content maybe have another mod approve of the deletion and/or the user who posts it gets a private notification and a certain amount of time before it is taken down by the mods.
Posted: 2011-09-18 16:02:08 Report Reply
I've wanted something like that for a long time.
Spam I delete instantly, but If I see someone post something that needs to be removed, I always leave them a comment and give them a chance to remove the content themselves before I take action.

Too much controversy from people who argue what they THINK is and is not against the TOS. It should be made clear and obvious that anything labeled NSFW should not be on here, just as you said. The majority of the recent NSFW posts on here have been made for the SOLE purpose of pushing the boundaries of the TOS. I share your opinion in when and where things like that should be posted. I'm hardly going to put up a complaint if someone does try and push the boundaries of the TOS. It complies with the current TOS, so there is no reason to start an argument about it. It's my understanding as a moderator that I should place my own morals aside when scanning a post for questionable material and instead base my opinion off of what the TOS currently says. That being said, I've defended people who posted NSFW posts BECAUSE they complied with the TOS, not because I care to see scantily clad women. Almost every person who comments on NSFW posts puts in their two cents about how it shouldn't be allowed on Sharenator. Currently, there is nothing saying that it can't be on here. Until such a time that it is a written rule*, I will not argue, nor complain, nor delete anything that I find to be morally questioning towards the growth and development of Sharenator, so long as it complies with the current standards provided by the TOS, and I would hope that every mod and member of the community would do the same.

*I do wholeheartedly believe that there should be a rule against specifically NSFW posts.

I'm not advocating a witch hunt to delete all evil posts with women in them. I just simply suggest a stand down until Paul or Darius speak on this issue and define the TOS and mod boundaries.

I dont get it, which mod has just now entered overdrive and decided to delete posts which r perfectly fine???? Sure some of mine were rude and offensive, and of course deserved to be deleted, I have no problem with that. But again posts or comments that r not rude get deleted becoz your not m8's with the mods. This site is now so fixed and this is why us normal sharenators are getting peed off. I think the expression is "too many cooks spoil the broth"

I agree 100% WRAPPEDinBACON, I enjoy this website and think most of the people who use it are lovely. However when this whole thing started, with bigredkev's posts of female's boobs and asses posts I just thought, why on earth is this on the website. It has no reason to be here and this website has no use for it. If they want to share their pictures of girls like that then, as you stated, should go to a website such as 4chan. I think the ToS need a look over and edited to comply with what has been happening on the site recently.

i agree with this too. the sharenator logo or what ever it is say its human nature to share. but in real life you wouldn't walk up to someone and hand the pictures of half naked girls. if it was a funny picture most people would share it. All im saying is if you wouldn't show it to a random person in real lief don t post it on sharenator

Regarding the NSFW, I believe any NSFW posts just shouldn't be here. Of course, if you're looking at a list of posts, then you have a choice not to view it. However, I do a lot of my 'Natoring by clicking next post, +3ing (it's important) and viewing whatever untold post pops up. Unless the four letters NSFW trigger a category to keep them from randomly happening, I think there's no room for NSFW on this site whatsoever.

I'd like to call this your warning, although you've had plenty in the past. Enough is enough. I've deleted many of your comments for being offensive. Stop harassing other members.

Unfortunately, after multiple warnings, and after your rude offensive posts/comments have been deleted, you do not seem to get the hint.

I personally could care less how people feel on this topic. But when you start harassing other members, calling them "assholes" among other things, then enough is enough. You're an adult, older than more than half of us here. How about you start acting like one?

This is the last warning. I'm getting sick of deleting your rude comments.
