The case Perry vs. Schwarzenegger is a landmark one: challenging the Constitutionality of a gay marriage ban. It began last Monday (January 11th, 2010) and has continued for a week at this point. Although proceedings were barred from Youtube by the Supreme Court (an unprecedented action) some updates can be found here and there on what is being said in the trial.

The Sides-

Perry:

Attorneys U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson and David Boies are teaming up to debate the case of two California couples- Kristin Perry and Sandra Steir, and Paul Katami and Jeffrey Zarrillo. These attorneys worked on opposing sides of the Bush vs. Gore case in 2000.

Schwarzenegger:

Although the California Attorney General and Schwarzenegger were both sued in the case, neither was willing to appear as a defendant. The Attorney General said outright that Prop 8 should be struck down, and Schwarzenegger took a more neutral position, that Prop 8 speaks to "important constitutional questions." Proponents of Prop 8, lead by Dennis Hollingsworth, stepped in to provide a defense.

I personally hope with all that I can that this lawsuit succeeds. It's time for equality. : ).
