I was asked in class a few days ago what I thought the American dream was and for sometime I have been pondering over it. I think that the American dream is stability, a life of happiness its a very generalized view but I think it's valid. So I'm asking you and this is for everyone even our friends from across the sea, what do you think the "American Dream is"?
This doesn't have to mean a nice big house and a BMW. You don't have to be rich. But if you can do it ethically along the way of pursuing this happiness by all means. I will never try to stop you.
-The American dream, as brought to you by BP.
Anyway, bongoman was right, the American dream is that whatever your background in life, if you work hard enough you can achieve whatever you want.
and technically red blooded Americans are these people
2. Actually, they don't. Back in 'the day', Native Americans had a philosophy: "No one can own land, the Earth lets us live here" (note:I'm paraphrasing). That's why they sold New York to us for what would now equal $25.
The American Reality is: Working your ass off to make others rich while you end up in debt and a slave to the cycle.
Great post TB - I don't know how I missed this - I enjoy your posts and cant believe that I didn't see this before.
I can only hope that makes as much sense as it did in my head.
