The American dream
I was asked in class a few days ago what I thought the American dream was and for sometime I have been pondering over it. I think that the American dream is stability, a life of happiness its a very generalized view but I think it's valid. So I'm asking you and this is for everyone even our friends from across the sea, what do you think the "American Dream is"?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO the horror!! the HORROOOORRR (only because i had to read and analyse it in english and the teacher for it was so BOOOORING :P
Earhican dream = financial peace, trying to make your children's life better than yours. It's not about big houses or nice cars, but those are nice to have.
then let it be changed to life liberty and the pursuit of bacon.
yes but nothing in life is guaranteed. you just get a chance at it like everyone else
The American dream is being able to provide you and your family(if it applies to you) without some handout provided by the government. Being able to wake up every day and know that you are going to your job at which you do your best and enjoy the job. Working to get it yourself, not pushed along by someone else.
This doesn't have to mean a nice big house and a BMW. You don't have to be rich. But if you can do it ethically along the way of pursuing this happiness by all means. I will never try to stop you.

I don't think it can really be defined (because everyone has a different "dream")other than using your freedom to pursue the life you want to live. Now, let me clarify that. I do not mean that you should go kill someone to make yourself happy, because your rights end where someone else's begin. But you should pursue the life you want to live. Achieving the life goals you've set for yourself is, in my opinion, the American dream.
doesn't that fall in the category of the pursuit of happiness? to do whatever makes you feel good.
well put ertov you always have something to bring to the table.
God. I had to write an essay about the play "a raisin in the sun". the topic was how the american dream isn't always achievable to people born in unfortunate circumstances. I got an A on the paper but it was a beotch to write.
Anyway, bongoman was right, the American dream is that whatever your background in life, if you work hard enough you can achieve whatever you want.

rabbit hunting is fun. i use a 4-10 breach action shotgun. have you tried the flavored shots yet? you can get the bird shot for hunting small game this is made of spice. it melts in the animal when you cook it. i highly recommend it if you can get your hands on it.

prefer to use a bow its a ancient craft and is allot harder to kill something with however you cause less trauma to the meat and you feel better when you do it - also you don't need to buy ammo all the time use the same arrows unless they get damaged and you can but all kinds of shit on the arrowheads

1. Never said we weren't all immigrants.
2. Actually, they don't. Back in 'the day', Native Americans had a philosophy: "No one can own land, the Earth lets us live here" (note:I'm paraphrasing). That's why they sold New York to us for what would now equal $25.

The American Dream is : working your ass off to try and make your way through life to live free and be happy -
The American Reality is: Working your ass off to make others rich while you end up in debt and a slave to the cycle.
Great post TB - I don't know how I missed this - I enjoy your posts and cant believe that I didn't see this before.

I said it mostly joking - America is pretty much the ONLY place that not only allows you to follow your dreams , but will finance you as much as possible to assist the small business become a big business. I wouldn't want to live ANYWHERE else in the world. We do have our flaws and you know what I am talking about - nothing is perfect but our society is the best its ever been.

nah u yeah but other fags like peace no
that's why i donate to the red cross every year
I think Jofus's take on it is awesome, but I myself would like to think that the American Dream is to have the freedom to achieve the power to help more people in better ways than you currently can.
I can only hope that makes as much sense as it did in my head.
