Sharenator enters top 10,000 most visited websites
If you noticed Sharenator crashing down last week, it was because we were getting a ton of traffic and our poor server couldn't handle it. We've since made our servers stronger and Sharenator seems to be running smoothly so far.
All this traffic had a massive effect on our rankings. Sharenator went from #40,000 to #10,000 in 3 months.
According to Alexa, Sharenator is #8,639 most visited website on the web. It went up to #7,001 yesterday.
Sharenator is #6,416 in US and #4,602 in UK.
Here's an interesting fact: over 99% of our visitors are non registered members. It blows my mind thinking of how many people are anonymously enjoying the content of this site and watching us have fun.

Psst.
Responses (40) / Sorted by points
I had some ideas for Sharenator, to make it much more appealing for people to register. But, one of my ideas has not been implemented, private messaging.
I came to this website for about 2 weeks before finally registering, because I wanted to comment so badly. This is probably what those 99% are doing, before a small portion register. In order to get more of them to register, you need to give more reasons to, other than points and the ability to comment/post new content.
This is why Sharenator needs to add a "homepage" feel to the website. This would be a page that loads after logging on, which would include new content from posters that you "follow" as well as comments posted to your new content and private messages.
Users could still view content how they do now, with the top rated and new links. But, by allowing users to customize what they see on their "homepage", the website would have a more community feel to it, drawing people to register new accounts.
Once people register for the website, they will visit more often and begin adding more content, causing a snowball effect. Once thousands of new posts are added each day, this "homepage" with "follow"ed users would become mandatory to sort through all the content.
The final piece that is needed, to help clean up viewable content is the ability to "block" a user. For example, I like to view new content and give points and reply, to help others begin to see this content. But, a certain user spams the new content with his flash website content. I would love to block everything from him, since I do not come here to play flash games.
So in summation, my recommendations to push this website into the top 1,0000.
#1 - Ability to "follow" or "tag" or "like" certain users.
#2 - "Home Page" that displays only content from people listed in #1
#3 - Private Messaging (really surprised this isn't already here)
#4 - Block users/categories
#3 can be combined with #1 and #4 to make sure people do not get spammed, trolled, etc.

After going through the "new content" section, I came up with another idea to try and get people to post more new content. Of course, this might get abused, but then users can "block" or report the abusers.
#5 - Bonus points for posting new content, with diminishing returns for each additional post that day.
Example. So MasterFlashGameSpammer would get 6 points for his first flash, 3 for his second, 1 for his third, and then nothing for the rest of the day. So he gets a total of 10 points for new content each day, instead of spam*3 like they do now.
This would also make posting new content daily, for regular users, more valuable. Hopefully, driving up the new content count.

Sharenator is #1 most visited website on my web.
Next step. Conquering the internet!
I agree with some of the ideas on here, like the IM idea etc. But do you reckon there'd be any possibility of getting a mobile web version of this site. I've got a BlackBerry and would quite like to be able to use Sharenator 'on-the-go' so to speak. :)

99%! son-of-a-mother-fucking-bitch! Thats a lot of people taking into account that there is already a lot of people with registered accounts
well not really because the top one is, drumroll please, facebook. yep.
Awesome, as previously stated, lets go for #1.
As this is starting to turn into a suggestion post, here's my 2 cents:
I think it would be a good idea to have a legend for our post/comment section on how to use the available tools sharenator offers like this:
Another thing that bothers me is I quite often find myself browsing other site with sharenator in the background because the front page doesn't move fast enough to my liking. I think a fix to this would be to have an option to change the sorting option from what it is now to updating with the slightest bump (comment or +1 uprate would immediately bump it). It probably wouldn't be too practical right now but when it gets more popular...
