SCARY ART! Prepping for Halloween.
This was done by Francisco Goya during his dark period. The subject is Saturn devouring his children. This is different from Rubens version which will be shown later on. This is more the depiction of a madman in the throes of cannibalism, rather than a calculating evil man trying to gain more power by killing his child.
This painting is not scary upon initial inspection, which is why you need a little background. This family had commissioned the portrait, but at some point during the process, the mother had passed away. So they decided to complete it anyway...by tying the mom to a chair and posing with her. It took several weeks to finish the painting. You can see the sadness and vague horror in the face of the father.
Um, yeah no thanks.
Here is another depiction of Saturn consuming child. It was a popular theme since the subject was so horrifying and against nature.
Edgar Allen Poe's greatest fear was of being buried alive.
I thought this was both sad AND scary. You can see one of the Fates holding the string of his lifeblood as though getting ready to cut it...
This was by modern artist Lauri Ilpton.
Is that a "Night Mare"? To paint an image of a demon was extremely taboo...That's what makes it scary for me.

I know EXACTLY what book these are from... It goes out on the coffee table every Halloween! Great choices!!!
Yeah, I remember seeing a documentery on that last one. I was soemthign about every 1 in 500 people suffer from this thing when they're sleeping, they wake up and are paralysed, then a dark clothed woman walks towards them, kneels on their chest, and stangles them until they pass out and wake up the next night. Thats why the demon in the picture is on her chest.... But I dunno why there is a horse there.
Here we go:
Slit-Mouth (Japanese horror movie)
Fright Night (Classic vampire movie of the 80's, there's a 2011 remake of it, but less scary I heard)
Zombie Mouth
Screenshot of Servant Grunt in the game Amnesia: The Dark Descent (Highly recommend it)
I'll add more, if I find :)
