Some rap is terrible, just like some rock is terrible. Whether or not the rap you have heard fits your musical taste, that's no reason to bash an entire genre. Calling people who are clearly fairly intelligent "retards" is highly offensive. And you stated exactly what rap is: poetry. In motion, in flow, in rhythyhm, in beat, in action.
im not saying all rap is bad but all the rap i ahave ever heard in my life talks about drugs, murder, bitches, hookers, beer, sec, etc. thats not poetry i am aware that some rock talks about that stuff but thats only SOME not MOST because tock requires musical knowledge thats what i have to say against that
"I'm not saying all rap is bad," vs. "garbage oops I mean rap".... contradictory?
And all you have to do is listen to any legitimate rap group to not hear about that.... try Fresh Espresso, Macklemore, etc. Please don't underestimate a fantastic genre.
I'm sorry, last time I checked it didn't take skill to rap. Just ramble on so fast nobody hears you, and get a sound geek to autotune in and put computer beats on. Give them a fucking guitar at the least.
Clearly you have not heard good rap. Rock has plenty of autotune too. And plenty of not discernible lyricists that make tons of money. Try pulling an Immortal Technique and rhyme, in beat, the word "Gentrification." Doesn't take skill my ass.
ask your friend what mood he is in. are you going to sit back and roll up a blunt? put some snoop on. are you going to work out? put some rock on. for me music is all about the mood i am in. all music has value. the best choice here is both. listen to it all. don't limit yourself to just one genre.
Well if im gonna roll up a blunt i prefer reggae or ska music, damian marley, sublime, but other times i listen to a variety of music, thick as blood, oceano, frank sinatra, ella fitzgerald, louis armstrong, johnny cash the killers... anything, not country though.
if you have never had a bottle of good burbon around a camp fire, then you will come to love some country music. willy nelson, waylin gennings, johnny cash all sing songs i bet you have heard before and might have enjoyed. i just reread your post. you listed Cash. as you can tell i am a big fan. let me ask you one question. do you know any good reasons to shoot a man in Reno?
Whoa bro, I like actual country, like that stuff, but not todays coyntry, not trace adkins or all that new shit i cant even think of right now. haha the new country is shit, old is good.
i dont get how high the water but i do agree on new country. i think though with anything new the cream has yet to rise to the top. there are no new country songs out there that i like, but give it time and well see what happens
You know, not all insults are rooted in insecurities. Sometimes when someone says, "This rap is bullshit," what that translates to is, "This rap is bullshit."
While it's fine for you to have the personal opinion "This rap is bullshit," when you insult people who have different opinions you are pressuring them to adopt your personal musical beliefs, which is rooted in insecurities or anger.
I am sure many people, including me, do not personally enjoy Greenday, but that doesn't give us the authority to belittle people who do enjoy Greenday.
Many people have researched this and I merely relayed the message to you. It is basic Psychology, which I thought was taught at almost every college and high school nowadays?
Anyways, I'm glad you agree. I can tell you that your sarcastic questions is a step in the wrong direction. When you use sarcasm you are indirectly expressing aggression towards others. Hiding your opinions in a joke rather than putting your opinions out there directly also points to insecurities.
Never cared for rap personally. Love Rock though. Always been a Led Zepplin, ACDC, CCR, Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd kind of guy. As for my favourite genre, I have to go with The Blues.
whats wrong with rap its kool well not the modern-day rap but the oldies like 2pac and biggie smalls so why are we having this debate on which is better?
rock is like a cold beer on a hot day, rap is like a 12 year scotch that is good now and then, classical is a fine wine that is divine any time, mood music is champagne that is only good in the company of a lover. i enjoy all alcohols and therefore all music.
I think you have to think about every single band and decide if you like it or not...
Like rock. there are so many subtypes and they are all slightly different.
And i kind of like some rap because the lyrics and so on are great but I hate this gangta rap which is pretty much all about insulting people.
They're both good. It depends on my mood which one I choose to listen to. I used to listen to rap before track meets and rock before going to school in the morning. Some Rock artists I don't like and the same with Rap artists. But I agree, can't really compare the 2.
Personally i enjoy Rock more then rap, but that dosen't mean rap is vindicated i still listen to it from time to time. And i respect most artists from both genres because it takes guts and skill to be able to stand up and do what they do!
u say soulja boy- i say AC/DC
you say rihanna - i say metallica
you say lil wayne - i say led zeppelin
you say lady gaga - i say nirvana
you say emenem - i say iron maiden
you say hanna montana - i scream heavy metal

I'm a Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Chevelle kind of guy myself. I like a little bit of rap but so much of it is just about fuckin' dem hoes and droppin' it on yo' fuckin' head.
EDIT:
add Distirbed to my list of favorite bands. I can't believe I forgot them.
Rap sucks so large, so incredibly large, that if all the Rap songs were played at same time the massive sucking effect would be equal to a Black Hole suddenly appearing at the core of the Earth and life as we know it would end. Thank God those dumb f@#ks kill each other faster than they can reproduce.
this is some dumb, y do ppl always compare the 2
if u ask me I would listen to underground hip hop any day over rock but
y do ppl disrespect "rap" so much well maybe cus u think rap is wat lil wayne & eminem do, in any real rap fans opinion those guys give a bad name to real rap artists
here is some real rap(well underground hip hop)
if anyone has a valid argument y this sucks I would love to hear it
Definitely rock. There are a few rap songs I like that are catchy and all but for the most part, I hate their rhymes and how they'll say ridiculous, unrelated things just because they rhyme. But if they can make it sound good AND actually be coherent, then cool beans. My favorite of both genres: Linkin Park and Hollywood Undead :)
But rock definitely kicks all sorts of rap ass. I'm currently going through a Breaking Benjamin phase so...
Figured I'd put my two cents in, I like both, both have good and bad. For all you hardcore rock fans, there are shitty rock songs, and all you diehard rap fans, (not sure that there are any) there are shitty rap songs. And all you people that say rap is not music, you are extremely ignorant. Music-an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner. Last time I checked, rap meets all these requirements. Just because its new and different doesn't mean it should be shunned.
AC/DC, Aerosmith, And So I Watch You From Afar, Blink-182, Bloc Party, Camel, Chickenfoot, Coldplay, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Daughtry, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, Frost*, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Green Day, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Eat World, Joe Satriani, John Mayer, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Linkin Park, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marillion, Maroon 5, Mayday Parade, Metric, Motorhead, Muse, Neal Morse, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, OneRepublic, OSI, Pain of Salvation, Paramore, Phish, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Queen, Radiohead, Rainbow, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Roger Waters, Rush, Steve Hackett, Sting & The Police, The Beatles, The Flower Kings, The Who, Three Days Grace, Transatlantic, Within Temptation, Yes, You Me at Six, Zero 7 [and so many others] vs. rap?
Yeah, I believe I'm going to stick with rock; thank you very much.
as a musician myself, i would have to say rock, because i know that rock musicians need to have natural talent, as well as spend hours of practicein order to make your music sund good. Rapping, on the other hand takes next to no musical skill, and almost anyone can rap with hardly any practice.
rap is a lyric intensive median. You don't feel that lyrics are art? Let alone the music that goes along with it is not a music? Interesting coming from a "musician" such as your self.

"Just ramble on so fast nobody hears you"
oh plz u gotta be kidding
oh yea u can hear the disturbed lyrics so much clearer
& u honestly think it dosent take skill? then u have never heard freestyle rap
Oh and by the way, it's not rap, it's Hip Hop.
