My friend can't decide what he likes better, rock and roll or rap sooooo I wanted to ask you sharenators what you like better.

im not saying all rap is bad but all the rap i ahave ever heard in my life talks about drugs, murder, bitches, hookers, beer, sec, etc. thats not poetry i am aware that some rock talks about that stuff but thats only SOME not MOST because tock requires musical knowledge thats what i have to say against that

Clearly you have not heard good rap. Rock has plenty of autotune too. And plenty of not discernible lyricists that make tons of money. Try pulling an Immortal Technique and rhyme, in beat, the word "Gentrification." Doesn't take skill my ass.

ask your friend what mood he is in. are you going to sit back and roll up a blunt? put some snoop on. are you going to work out? put some rock on. for me music is all about the mood i am in. all music has value. the best choice here is both. listen to it all. don't limit yourself to just one genre.
Well if im gonna roll up a blunt i prefer reggae or ska music, damian marley, sublime, but other times i listen to a variety of music, thick as blood, oceano, frank sinatra, ella fitzgerald, louis armstrong, johnny cash the killers... anything, not country though.

While it's fine for you to have the personal opinion "This rap is bullshit," when you insult people who have different opinions you are pressuring them to adopt your personal musical beliefs, which is rooted in insecurities or anger.

I think you have to think about every single band and decide if you like it or not...
Like rock. there are so many subtypes and they are all slightly different.

I'm a Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Chevelle kind of guy myself. I like a little bit of rap but so much of it is just about fuckin' dem hoes and droppin' it on yo' fuckin' head.

rock is like a cold beer on a hot day, rap is like a 12 year scotch that is good now and then, classical is a fine wine that is divine any time, mood music is champagne that is only good in the company of a lover. i enjoy all alcohols and therefore all music.
Definitely rock. There are a few rap songs I like that are catchy and all but for the most part, I hate their rhymes and how they'll say ridiculous, unrelated things just because they rhyme. But if they can make it sound good AND actually be coherent, then cool beans. My favorite of both genres: Linkin Park and Hollywood Undead :)

Figured I'd put my two cents in, I like both, both have good and bad. For all you hardcore rock fans, there are shitty rock songs, and all you diehard rap fans, (not sure that there are any) there are shitty rap songs. And all you people that say rap is not music, you are extremely ignorant. Music-an artistic form of auditory communication incorporating instrumental or vocal tones in a structured and continuous manner. Last time I checked, rap meets all these requirements. Just because its new and different doesn't mean it should be shunned.
