Am I the only one who looks at this and sees Russel Brand in 20 years, albeit after swapping drugs and sex addictions for McDonald's?

The XM8 is my new favorite gun. The gun is still a proto type, but its on its way to becoming the U.S. Armys new standard assault rifle. Speaking of which, this gun isnt JUST an assault rifle, but also a compact carbine, a sharpshooter, and a LMG.
All the parts are easy to switch out in a combat situation. Has a built in red dot scope for multiple uses, and built in bipod for sharp shooting and support.
This gun is deff the future of standard guns.

Yeah, I could see since its such a universal gun that it could be more costly, but it seems pretty worth it. Its also lighter then both the M16 and the M4. It also doesnt jam as much as both of those.
But, I dont know how all the money and efficiency of weapons goes into the purchasing of hundreds of thousands of these guns goes.

Actually, the XM8 is dead now. It was on hold but but the government canceled it and is looking at the SCAR.
i love when i am proven wrong. it means i get to learn something. i am not now nor ever will be perfect. that being said i know there are wepons used by the military that are not made in the US. the point i was trying to make is that all standard issue guns are made in the US.
The HK MP5 weapon is manufactured by Heckler and Koch and is presently fielded to Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance Companies and Marine Security Force Battalions, and Special Operations Units, such as Army Rangers, Delta Force, and Navy SEALS.. It is currently considered the main weapon in the close quarters battle (CQB) environment.

ive never had a malfunction from teh mechanics of my m4... proper preventative maintenance and care of your weapons will ensure that they will operate reliably when needed... exceptions to this rule are MG's bcz open bolt weapons have a degree of unpredictability... ive never had my m4 or either of my personal pistols jam or malfunction on me, in the 8 years that ive been working with weapons...
The book AK-47 by Larry Kahner gives a good account of the development of the m-16, including all the ways the army testers tried to scupper it because much of the top brass was against a move a way from the 30.06 and all the work Springfield had put into the m14, favouring them over colt. It gives the impression Mcnamara also saved it by green-lighting its procurement for the air force and ARVN in Vietnam.
Mcnamara and the "wiz kids" are the reason the m16 is the standard over the m14. for combat he was correct. ever shot a 30.06? a hell of a kick when compared to a .223. the 14 is a great gun, my uncle has one that he custom built. it is fun to shoot but is a bitch to rapid fire. now the 16 you can hip fire all day.
The M14 is still in active service , so is the M16 , but you cant beat the M14. So MANY mod possibilities.
Bit of an exercise in futility when they originally intended to make it fully auto.
Of course the US army could have had the FAL, back when a single weapon was being agreed upon for NATO. the Europeans wanted a smaller round but US didn't, so it was agreed that the 308 Winchester would become standard NATO 7.62 if the European FAL could be the gun to fire it. The US went back on that and adopted the m14 and later everyone realised a smaller bullet was better after all and went to 5.56.

I agree completely. The correct weapon for the job is what counts. The M14 is rugged and reliable but far from a close quarters weapon. If you are looking to clear a house , I would prefer a bitch. Something simple , a modified version of the M1014 or even a 9mm MP 5 is fine. the ONLY problem with the shotgun is accuracy. Its unmatched in firepower , but what about the time when you need to take down a hostile and he is using someone as a shield ? in that situation , I want the M4 carbine. better than the 9mm with its 5.56 and short enough to fit from my shoulder to my hip. Anyways - both of youse know your weapons. Bravo gents. Remind me to hook up with you when the Zombie War breaks out. We will take em all on.....
agreed johne... and they are starting to push m14's back down to the line squads... now if they can get these young guys who are getting them the proper training to use them.... or just give them to guys who know how to handle them... i.e. me?
as far as i've heard only the platoon "sharpshooters" in my unit are getting m14's. dont ask me how they designate it but our PSD element has 3 m14's and the route clearance guy's have 0. the unit just bought about 150 more so hopefully i can trade in my m4 for one in a year or so.

Oh... for... clubbing some whores down?
i have shot one before. if you can hit your target on the first shot and if you are wearing earplugs then its a great gun. too much bang and kick. also the ammo is some what expensive. that means less time at the shooting range. i like the SOCOM .45. best gun i have ever purchesed.

well you have to admit you probably wouldn't have to shoot it to get your point across lol
Epic gun cant believe they didn't bring it to modern warfare 2 as it is still in use.

ill just stick with my AR-15, Glock 19, WW2 luger that my grandfather got from a german colonel for 2 bottles of konyak, and my badger m2008 rifle. i think it both scares and comforts my neighbors knowing that i have guns which i think i might be the only person that has a gun in my apartment complex. lol
Let's Begin the awesome:
ONE - The M110 by Knights Armament
TWO - The FN P90 (Modeled by Jack O'Niell)
And THREE - The .44 Magnum (Various Makers)
Oh, and remember, "Magnum, the only size"

the first would have to be:
AA12 Automatic Shotgun
upside down, naturally
second would be a bit more patriotic:
L85A2 Assault Rifle
finally, one of the most beautiful pistols i have seen and is also used by the good old British Army:
Browning Hi Power
i'm British, can you tell?

The AK47 was inspired by the German STG/MP-44. It's more then slightly obvious just by looking at them actually, here are two pictures to demonstrate.
While I'm not sure how exactly this came up, I'm hoping the images help as a reference. The AK47 was designed by a Russian Tank Commander after World War II, the STG/MP44 was made during World War II, but if I remember right it was late into the war and Hitler didn't like it much.

Mikhail Kalashnikov the points shall be mine muhahaha.
And although they look that similar I dont think they are internally. If I remember right Kalashnikov nicked the bolt design from the Garand, although the assault rilfe concept was nicked from the stg. I was planning a uni dissertation on the AK before I switched subjects so that's my fave.

Thank you for once again picking out one irrelevant part of my comment and ignoring the point. The fact that I didn't bother to look when you said it doesn't matter at all. My point is the Dawn is a girl and therefore not a sir. Next time I'lll just let you wallow in your ignorance.

Hitler didn't think that the Germans needed an assault rifle. That's why it was originally called the MP-44 (machine pistol) like the MP-40. It made it seem like it wasn't as big of a gun. However, when he saw it in action, he changed his mind. Then it became the STG.
umm...idk. accuracy isnt much of a problem in my case. i like to get up close and personal. i dont plan on shooting someone in the head with a pistol from more than 250 yards away anytime soon. if i had to pick a very simple and good but accurate gun. the "saturday night special"[the smith and wesson .38 revolver snub nosed]. its not much for ammo. but it'll "bust a nigga's head wide ass open" says my little cousin.
revolvers are generally not as accurate as a single shot or semi-auto pistol due to the gap between the cylinder and the barrel. snub nosed just makes it worse as there is not enough barrel to put a decent rotation on the bullet nor as much barrel to direct the bullet as much. generally i find a semi-auto with a 5-7inch barrel has the best accuracy.
