Ok, so i have noticed that as soon as religeon is brought into an argument, people get all judgemental "athiests are terrible people". "Christians hate everyone unless they believe in god"...
Why is everyone so quick to judge one another based on a personal belief?
christians- your taught that jesus loves everyone and that you should try to do the same. By being hurtful to someone, that is doing the oppisite of that.
athiests- just because someone is a christian doesnt mean they hate you. Just because they want to believe in something you dont believe in doesnt mean they are stupid.
Why can't we al just treat each other with some respect?
I do believe in Jesus. I am catholic, but i'd rather just have my own belief without the religeon. My closest friends include mostly athiests and Muslims. in fact, one of the muslims is my best friend,,,and frankly the only person i trust. I dont hate them, nor do I hate anyone else. I have to main goals in life. One of those is a musical goal, but the other is to never hate anyone..and to treat everyone with respect, to be everybody's friend.
We are not all bad :D
Many fundamentalists find it impossible to practice their beliefs without proselytising others and trying to force it on other people. That's what gets even the moderate atheists incredibly irritated.
Likewise, the aggressive atheists, Dawkins included, find religion (particularly with the fundamentalists) so antagonistic to society that they effectvely become as bad as fundamentalists that try to force it on others.
And atheists, mostly, can tell the difference between moderates and fundies. The anglican church down the road from me that my mother attends is fine. They've let me decide my own beliefs for myself without judging me. They're good people. If there was a church or other religious community nearby that regularly went door to door, or publicly protested, then i would get irritated. It isn't that christians purposefully hurt others, it's when some try to force it on others, and when they cannot accept the beliefs of others - that's what gets atheists pissed off. Mostly, we're cool to coexist with moderate religious people - of any religion - who are cool with believing as they like - but can accept the beliefs of others. It's just unfortunate that there are those who can't accept others beliefs - religious or otherwise.
Thanks for being nice about you comment. I wasn't trying to step on anybody's toes
A question to atheist: What exactly is the point of trying to get people to drop their faith in God? I mean, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and other religious people try to convert because they fear for the souls of the lost. But if there truly is no god, what is the harm in believing there is one and worshiping as so?
I think some want people to drop their faith because they see only the negative things its had like the crusades and holocaust not all the great things out of it
my closest friends are a mix of christian and athiests, with 1 muslim and 2 hindu, i respect what they think, they respect me
i'm sorta a mix or athiest and christian, not really sure, but no one judges anyone
and btw, welcome back! i haven't seen you here in a while! :D
and thanks for the welcome back haha xD
And don't rage please
