Vai can definitely shred. I'd like to see him and Joe Satriani together.
Well, they played together. It was on the G3 Live in Tokyo, playing Smoke on the Water alongside with Malmsteen and Petrucci. If you want it, you can find it on Youtube: g3 live tokyo smoke on the water.
