If only I could give you more points for this. I want to find that driver and give him one massive high five :) Wouldn't suprise me if he/she created that billboard of Bush from a month or so back.
What don't I have against Obama? And no this is not a race issue, but given the chance if it was Powell versus Obama, I would vote Powell. Obama just was not ready to be in office, he played the "race" and "change" card the whole ride to office against a white man. His recent choice to discontinue NASA was the biggest mistake AGAINST the benefit of America. What are we going to do now? Ask Russia for permission to launch shuttles? How brilliant.
1. Why wasn't Obama ready? 20 years of professing Constitutional Law, political science training, political experience, education, intelligence, tenacity, drive. Why wasn't he ready?
2. Show me where he played the race card? If you're suggesting his race actually helped him win the election, I would suggest taking a look at the history of successful black candidates vs. successful white candidates. Which race is usually "helpful?"
3. He didn't discontinue NASA. He temporarily nixed a program that would pointlessly send people to the moon. We've been multiple times. We know what we want to. Going back is just us trying to say we are superior to the vacuum surrounding us. It's an egotistical super-vacation that has no scientific worth. And we are in so much debt at this point, sending pointless space missions should be the least of our worries (I'm not saying space missions are pointless, I'm saying repetitious lunar visitations are). We don't have to ask anyone for permission, Nasa was not discontinued. Just do a little research first: www.nasa.gov/

what is really wrong was his whole idea that the stimulus was going to fix things and raising taxes will help.
His solution is just a short term fix. Artificially boosting up businesses that should have failed only worsens our problem in the long run. What do you think is going to happen when the money runs out? The businesses will make the same mistakes again.
I believe3 the best thing that could have been done was to lower taxes for everyone. That results in a direct flow of money into all of the businesses consumers choose. That way weak busineses are whittled out and strong ones prosper, as a free market economy should.

Well, the stimulus was pretty much universally supported until after its implementation: because something needed to be done. Without the stimulus, there is absolutely no way as many Americans that have jobs now would. Multiple banks would have gone under, causing irreversible job loss in not just the banking industry, but the auto industries, housing, etc.
Sure, maybe it was a short term fix... but that's what we needed as the time. Keep the country/world going while we figure something out. Talk to FDR.
Finally, lowering taxes for everyone would have been exactly retrograde to the success of our nation. Because the stimulus was necessary (to prevent staggering unemployment, much greater than what was actually experienced), the government had to spend money. This money has to come from somewhere, and an extremely small percentage was put to the taxpayer. Mind you, Obama's taxes have always been less than many, many other presidents', including many Republican presidents'.
Finally, lowering taxes for all would have been harmful to the country because consumers/citizens do exactly one thing in the case of a recession (a public one anyway): hold on to their money to dear life without regard to what they might actually be doing. The best thing for a country in a recession is for the consumer to continue spending money... but they never do, especially in America. They hoard their finances, stop stimulating economic growth, and don't listen to any sound economist. With more money in their pocket instead of going directly to the government, we would be much, much worse off than we are now.

@BEASTY I have insurance. You've made an excellent attempt at dodging my question. How very Democratic of you.

seriously lets this waste of a thread die.
What dan said. He's been cleaning up the crap that Bush left behind, so he hasn't been able to do a whole lot.
Well the recession is one reason. There is also the constant battle he must fight with the Republicans because they both believe different things. He's also struggling because he wants to change America and while statistics would show that the majority of the US population wants this change there are a huge amount of people who hate him for it and see it as badmouthing America when you are the greatest nation ever.
In his first week in office, Barack Obama did the following:
Froze the salaries for top White House staff members. This is a largely symbolic act, but might be an important one.
Set a deadline for the closing of Guantanamo Bay. Some of his supporters would say this is a great thing because they believe it operates as something from the Dark Ages. Others believe this characterization to not be true, and that no plan will be put place to determine what to do with the prisoners. Time will tell.
Fast-tracked the process to apply new fuel standards to 2011 car models AND initiated steps to allow California to set its own standards for auto emissions that are stricter than that of the Federal government. Again, this is a measure that some of his supporters hail as a grand step forward, while his detractors (or flamers) point out that it could provide an additional severe drag on the economy, especially in car manufacturing areas.
Signed a detailed executive order to ban torture and inhumane treatment of prisoners.
Asked the military leadership to engage in additional planning necessary to execute a responsible military draw down from Iraq.
Released the interrogation memos without consulting the Bush staff and/or Bush about it. And they were only partially released some of the information in the memos were not made public.
Signed an executive order that restored a 30-day time frame for former presidents to review records before they are released. It also eliminated the right for the vice president or family members of former presidents to do the reviews.
Signed an executive order that requires that appointees sign forms saying that they were not hired because of political affiliations or contributions. This is far from an unbeatable measure, but is an important early step towards cleaning up governmental hiring policies. It is easier to prove someone lied when their signature is right next to the statement in question.
Signed an order banning gifts from lobbyists and banning anyone from working in an agency they had lobbied in previous years. Promptly made the order toothless by immediately granting a waiver to a former defense lobbyist.
Lifted a ban on giving federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide abortion information.
Granted his first TV interview as president to Al-Arabiya, a channel described as a "voice of moderation" to the Middle East. His supporters call this a very smart move to help angered nations and groups feel a bit less cast aside, and let them know that they need not resort to violence to be made a part of the world discussion. Detractors point out that this is the type of thing Neville Chamberlain would have done, though a TV interview and "the Munch Agreement" are leagues apart.
In his first 7 months in office
He's done quite a lot actually.
He has so far passed an economic recovery bill which has met mixed criticism but is slowly progressing. He has passed the AMD Stabilization and Support bill which was tailored to help stabilize and strengthen the United States Military, and has shown improvement within the standard. President Obama has also been working on other proposals, bills, and acts to be passed on topics such as Health Care reform, Education, the Mortgage crisis, the war on Al-Qaeda, and Domestic policy.
Promised to send additional troops to Afghanistan in March and began the pullout of troops in Iraq.
Passed the bailout of the auto industry and pressured their management to tow the party line.
Waffled on sending troops and allowed those serving no suffer from lack of support. (If you had to send 30,000 Americans to a war zone I bet you would hesitate unless I realized lives were at stake and I was in charge)
Refused to allow open meetings regarding health care reform as promised.
Passed more tax increases on middle America than any other President.
Encouraged Cap and trade passage to increase demand of foreign oil and raise the cost of our supply. (How does cap and trade increase demand? (See discussion))
Promised to make tough decisions regarding the ability to continue paying medicare payments. Cutting $400 billion from their budget.
Insulted police doing their jobs making the office look foolish. (How? (See discussion)
First Year:
>Sent troops to Afghanistan but pulled troops out of Iraq (What planet? He has nt pulled out of Iraq!) we are now at 115,000 troops as of 2/11/2010! Zero actual draw down.
> Made a more transparent form of Government (almost daily daily Facebook Q&A's with his staff) Has had more closed door meetings then any previous administration. Even his open door committee only has closed door meetings!
>Tried several times to get the Republicans to join him and get bi-partizanship on the destruction of democracy. Republicans did not wish to contribute!
> Passed a stimulus package that is creating no jobs across the country. This bill has given more to the rich then every previous President combined!
>Well on his way to passing the HC bill which will ration health care to most Americans and help less then 12 million. The cost will destroy our children's and grand children's future.
>Managed to have the two worst months for deficit spending ever. (The two Feb.s he has been President)

I'm not saying that Obama is an abomination to the Republic, or that John McCain would do any better. Remember when everyone hated Bush when he was first in office? Obama just needs time to sort out the national problems that BOTH the parties set out on America. Anyone can cause a national problem, but it takes a true President to acually fix the problems that the nation has been trying to hide. Heck I'm 15 and should be worrying about my career within the substantial amount of time I am given to help make my family money, but instead I have to worry about what the next crisis our nation is going to go through next. That's a funny picture, and I'm not saying it's right or wrong. The thing that's wrong with the government is that it has never been a neutral post, it has always leaned one way or another.
i know what ive posted before but can anyone enjoy the fucking picture? Obama is black woopty fucking doo! Everyone else was white, but dispite the minority difference we're all the fucking same one way or another. So eat shit and pop a cock to anyone who disagrees.
beasty you have know idea what you are talking about what makes you think he is the best person ever you don't know what he is like becuse you most likley never met him. and like most people I know exepet for a few only like him becuse he is black. and I do not like the health care bill, not becuse of the taxes but becuse it goes aginst my belifes. sorry about the spelling but you know what I mean.
Please reply direct to the comment, otherwise this happens and your reply is far from his. Obama has done a huge amount in his relatively short lifetime, just because you can't be bothered to find out what he's done doesn't mean he's not a great man. Meeting him is irrelevant, actions speak louder than words and he is a public figure where, again if you can be bothered, you can see his actions.
Please don't speak for a nation based on the tiny fraction of it that you know. Instead look at the statistics, the fact that he is black is barely even considered. Not to offend you, but statistics also show that the people who voted for Obama have an average intelligence level far higher than those who didn't, just saying.
Can I ask why your beliefs conflict with universal healthcare? Or do I not want to know why your beliefs conflict with the idea that everybody deserves healthcare?
Also the Grammar Nazi in me is forced to point out the irony in your sentence 'you have know idea what you are talking about'.

Agreed I am a hard working young American. I ahve a complication of mono that had infected my brain. So our healthcare system now allows for insurance companies to deny me access to anything, and not even be accepted by some. Under new health care they could not do this. I am 18 and if none of the insurances will accept me then my medical bill will end up falling on the tax payers, either way u will end up having to pay more.
And Stats do show that most people do perfer the new health care plan. It also depends on which poll u look at.
I want there to be health care reform to help me and people in my situation.

The economy pulled out of its' downward spiral a while ago (aside from that one day where the stock market dropped and then bounced right back up). what taxes are going up? and I personally like Obama better than Bush, because Bush was mostly a figurehead who let his subordinates run the show (ie: chaney, rumsfeld).Bush also suspended the writ of habeus corpus and passed the patriot act. i don't want a flame war here, just an intellectual conversation, I have always thought of you as an intelligent person and I hope that we could have a good debate with facts.
