This happens after every election... if Democrats win then republican states call for secession. If Republicans win then democrat states call for secession. Were you not old enough for the previous like, 3 elections to remember?

For me, I don't really care. I would have liked Romney to win, but with Obama I get more free money and I don't even have to work lol.

On what grounds do they want to secede? Didn't get the president they wanted? Sad and petty. That isn't even a legitimate reason for even wanting to leave.

This is what the petition reads:

"Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

Where's their proof? Why do they even think their economy is the 15th in world? BECAUSE OF LE UNION, if it wasnt for us theyd be with mexico anyways!

Idk how true all that is, but it's not like secession is realistic or anything. You have to remember Texas is the second most populous state so getting 25,000 signatures is less than 0.001% of the Texan population lol.

Although if it wasn't for being a state, Texas would be independent. Texas fought for and won independence from Mexico on their own, and was an independant country for 9 years before becoming a state. Texas does have a great economy, and has done better in the recession than most other states.

that law is severally out dated with the population sizes today. 25,000 is legit nothing anymore and shouldn't be anywhere near enough for them to consider this. They need to raise that number way up there or make it to be a certain percent of the population to prevent this idiotic stuff from happening.

Yea I think it's pretty disgusting, I mean we already had a civil war that cost over 500,000 people their lives and for that idea to be thrown around so loosely.. I mean I've yet to see a single reason given for wanting secede that was a solid valid reason. The majority can be equated to children threatening to run away from home because their parents did something they did not like.

All states have petitioned to secede and a few of them have gotten to amount of signatures needed for it to be reviewed.
