In a lot of places in Europe roll windows are compulsory in the back seats for safety precautions. Something to do with electric windows not working if the car crashes in water? This is what my brother told me a few years ago though, so he could have easily been lying to me :P

Not heard of that in the UK kiddo but from now on I'll be more cautious driving near water because I hadn't thought of that and mine are all electric.

mythbusters proved that electric windows work under water so just roll them down before you sink cos then you would be royally screwed

or you could carry a hammer in your car/truck... if your car is underwater a broken window shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Next time someone asks what they're for, break it off and beat them with it while saying "THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE FOR YOU UN-EDUCATED PRICK!"

That's how you 'handle' these kind of situations.

Unless they are under the age of 15.

id rather have a manual roll down than electric. why? less shit to go wrong =)

The motors on them only last 6-8 years before dying. Then they are roughly $300 to get fixed. Just more shit to break.

I call bull on that my CR-X is 22 years old and still has the original window and sunroof motors all of work perfectly

I had this happen the other day but the kid took it one step further. My truck has a manual transmission and the boy asked what the shifter was for. I was about to smack a punk.

    LOL!!

My grandparents have/had a car that had those...

I loved to mess around with them when we were driving.

The automatic cranks are replacing the manual window cranks these days! We are going to miss this type of thing in our car or truck.
