Things You'll Need:

Step 1
Fold your paper in half so that it forms a long rectangle. Ensure you really fold down the crease--run your finger or a pencil along the top of the crease. Unfold the paper, turn it 90 degrees and repeat the fold. Your square should be divided into four squares by the creases.

Step 2
Flip the paper over to the other side and fold it into a triangle. Again, make your creases tight. Turn the paper 90 degree and fold again. You should have eight creases. When you flip it back to the other side, it will have up and down ridges. Bring the inner ridges into the middle and fold the upper ridges so they are flat together like two diamonds. The top point of the diamond should be completely closed and the bottom should be completely open.

Step 3
Pull the edges of the diamond (it doesn't matter which) into the center. There should be a line running along the center of the diamond where the two edges will meet. Crease your paper. Fold down the top, closed edge of the diamond and then fold it back. Now open up the bottom edge of the diamond. It will look like a mouth, and the back edge of the mouth will be the fold you just made. Fold in the outside edges and continue to fold up the side you just pulled up. You will have to reverse the folds on that side. It should end up looking like a skinnier diamond. Repeat for the other side.

Step 4
Bring the outer edges of the diamond into the center in the same way as Step Three. Repeat for the other side. Push the outer edges of both diamonds together so they form the same sized diamonds as before, only they don't have a gap in between. Fold the bottom ends of the new diamonds up to the top as far as you can.

Step 5
Bring the edges together again in the same way as the beginning of Step Four. Fold the large fat wings down, reverse the very top of one of the long spike folds to make the crane;s head, and pull the tail away from the head to extend the body. Your crane is complete.
