The hiccups are not caused by the throat, but by an involuntary spasm in the Diaphragm muscle, therefore putting anything on or in your throat or neck will not do anything. However, you can solve by breathing exercises.

The diaphragm will start to spasm if you start to breathe infrequently and erratically. The only way you can avoid hiccups is to try to regulate your breathing, and to limit the activities which involve erratic breathing patterns, such as "swallowing air" to do a fake burp. This always causes me to get hiccups if I do it for more than two minutes.

I have not trialled any sort of exercise for curing hiccups, but quite honestly, hiccups are not a disease or illness, therefore they do not have or need a cure. What you or anyone is referring to when they say "a cure for hiccups" is something to stop the spasm from occurring.

From what I have personally and externally learned, the best and quickest way is to just breathe regularly, as holding your breath will simply cause more erratic breathing patterns, which will merely escalate the issue.

None of what I just typed was strictly true, but it gave you a bit of reading material, and if you got this far, well done. I deserve a plus. As you could probably imagine here, I would be the novelist blended with the person who suggests something too complex for anyone to attempt, understand or even take interest in.

I read it. +1 deserved and earned, sir.

A fall on the floor or trip down the stairs always cures my girlfriend. An extra push always makes it more entertaining.

The guy who said "Drink from the far side of a glass" is right. You just gotta lean forward until your head is upside down then try to swallow (the water and glass in unnecessary, but it helps). I'm not sure why but it has something to do with compressing your diaphragm and swallowing at the same time.
