You think religion and faith are crutches but choose to overlook the faith it takes you to believe in astronomically small probabilities while also denying that you put faith in things every day of your life.
You point at Christian faults while ignoring the many good things Christians have done like setting up orphanages, hospitals, and soup kitchens, and then claim to be detached and objective.
all lies. christans are really child eatting monsters thats why they dont like birth control or condoms. which is why they make the ophanages so they can gather them and have a feast!
ok people actually think im serious on this so im going to start being that now.
the quote is right about the not really being able to create boundaries for yourself as an atheist, and just because of the quote it makes Christianity sound worst. Christians make up most of the prison system, and i dont mean the converted once they got in they've always been that way. Atheist however make up less the 1% (from what I've heard) of the prison system. My theory on this subject is that because someone has rules and boundaries they attempt to break them. I admit Atheist are cold and heartless really because we see prefictly fine people running around everywhere calming their story they have no prove for true, as were Atheist relay on something that has been tested time and time again with the almost same results. If we were to try to show them this prove they throw it back into our faces saying we're sinners and that we're all condemned to hell and etc. I honestly believe no one should be allowed to say Atheist are harsh other then Atheist mainly cause no other religion understands. But it is your right to chose how you live all i can do is show you the prove and debate about it. Honestly sense you cant seem to under stand this is a small group off Christians. Here is another way of explaining it. There's a such think as babefurs (basically two fetishes for anyone who didn't know.) To clam all furries babefurs is to clam all Christians fundies. They make up very little of the mass so its wrong to clam them all the same. I hope this cleared some stuff up for you
I feel that. This fundie stuff is funny to me, a devout christian, because it is one one very very VERY far end of the spectrum. And on any far end of the spectrum, beliefs and practices are going to be warped. Not only do they not represent the christian community as a whole, they can hardly represent a fraction of a fraction of Christians.
As far as Atheists are concerned, i have never had a problem with them, and i often have good religious debates with them. If you question your beliefs, that is a good thing because you will try and find proof that your original belief was true. And your beliefs always come out stronger after searching them.
Ok, Castle is going a bit far. But those orphanages, hospitals etc. can (and are) set up by ANYONE, not just christians. That's why Mother Teresa was corrupt and wanted suffering to continue (read "The Missionary Position" by Christopher Hitchens for the full story), whereas the American Humanist Association (a group of atheists) does tons of charity work simply to be good people.
Firstly, since religions are false doctrine, bashing them is, in fact, not bullcrap. Secondly, it's not about atheism. The fact that humanists are atheists lets us move past the outdated immoral systems of religious morality (rape victims having to marry their attacker in the Old Testament for example) so we can actually do good through humanism.
So, in a way, it inspires more good than mythology ever could. Unless charity and love don't count as good things.
Show me architecture inspired by the lack of a God, show me mythology, artwork, organizations, show me COMMUNITY made by atheism.
You say that you're open-minded and don't want beliefs crammed down your throat, but lash out and or mock anybody who believes in God and then try to cram your own beliefs down their throat.
Firstly, in regards to art, ALL cultures have art, regardless of their beliefs, so unless you want to praise Odin for inspiring paintings in his likeness, or bow before the Hindu gods for letting men carve their images, your point is moot.
I didn't say you were, I said you're welcome to, since you accused me of saying I didn't want you to.
And no, the fact that I consider them silly shows I'm not a complete nutter. Unless you think that telepathically proclaiming a Jewish zombie as your master who sacrificed himself to himself because a rib woman made from a dirt man ate a piece of fruit that a talking snake told her to is a rational set of beliefs. But from where I sit, it seems pretty damn silly.
That seems more plausible to me than believing that the universe was empty and then an infinitesimally dense and tiny ball came into existence, grew exponentially just because, and then expanded/exploded to create everything.
Ah, see now you've made a critical logical error. You've confused atheism with support of the Big Bang theory.
Atheism is a rejection of the god hypothesis. That's it. Atheists DO NOT have to accept the Big Bang theory. However, we do know the Bg Bang happened roughly 14 billion years ago. There's a ton of evidence for that.
The question is what came before that. And guess what? We don't know. Atheists have no idea what caused the Big Bang besides some different hypotheses. But you know what?
Neither do you. Atheism is simply the rejection of your theory, NOT an alternate one.
Religion has its place but these people have no place in religion. Really these people are why people see religion as such a bad thing, except Islam even most of my friends that belong to Islam will say that it's a bit nutty.

How I feel with this post:
How I feel about Christians.
You point at Christian faults while ignoring the many good things Christians have done like setting up orphanages, hospitals, and soup kitchens, and then claim to be detached and objective.
Because one person doesn't define a group, you cotton-headed ninnymuggins.
That's exactly what i'm trying to say. Double standards don't exist, unless you're on the receiving end.
It seems that crimes committed by theists prove that all theism is bad, but crimes committed by atheists do not prove that all atheism is bad.

But ok, I'll bite. Mythology from atheism? Boom.
Artwork? Boom.
Organizations? Boom.

And I never said you can't try to cram your beliefs down my throat. Go ahead. I'll just point out how silly they are.

"I believe in god, only I spell it nature." -Frank Lloyd Wright
In place of god, he focused his designs on nature, which he found to be far more beautiful and real.
