For once we didn't do it

Personally, we don't play on a PS3 or anything Sony makes. We don't like Sony at all. We have a CyberPower PC and an Xbox 360 and that's more then we need. However recently we found out PSN was down through constant complaints popping up here and there and most gamers seem to be blaming Anon immediately. This would make sense to us too, Anon are at war with Sony still if we remember correctly. However Anon had also pledged to not bring down the PSN and doing so wouldn't make it sense since it'd hurt their cause. It's always possible a few people who help to form Anon had branched off and done it on their own, but Anon has released a statement we found on Anonnews.

notus - for once we didn't do it

When you remember that Anon and Sony are at war, it makes sense for Sony to also have no problem dropping the blame onto Anon instead of them. It makes them seem less incompetent and helps the customers trust them better rather then thinking they can't handle their own systems (Which would hurt sales obviously). Our stance on the matter is that we believe Anon is innocent of the PSN Downing, and that it's actually just Sony.

Some added perspective thanks to Wikipedia:
From the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Computer_Entertainment_America_v._George_Hotz

On January 11, 2011, Sony sued Hotz and others (including members of fail0verflow[2]) on 8 claims, including violation of the DMCA, computer fraud, and copyright infringement.[3] The law firm used by Sony is Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP.[4] In response to the suit, Carnegie Mellon University professor David S. Touretzky mirrored Hotz's writings and issued a statement supporting that Hotz's publication is within his right to free speech.[5]

On January 27, 2011, Sony's request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) was granted by the US District Court for the Northern District of California. This forbade him from distributing the jailbreak, helping or encouraging others to jailbreak, and distributing information they've learned during the creation of the jailbreak. It also ordered him to turn over computers and storage media used in the creation of the jailbreak to Sony's lawyers.[6] Professor Touretzky's mirror was voluntarily censored following issue of the TRO, but Hotz's writings and software have been mirrored elsewhere.[7]

On February 12, 2011, Hotz posted a rap video on his official YouTube page explaining his Sony lawsuit.[8]

On February 19, 2011, Hotz started a blog about the Sony lawsuit. [9]

On March 6, 2011, the court issued an approval that Sony's lawyers were allowed access to all the IP addresses of all the people who visited geohot's blog for the purposes of establishing jurisdiction. Sony said the server logs would demonstrate that many of those who downloaded Hotz’s hack reside in Northern California — thus making San Francisco a proper venue for the case.[10]

On April 11, 2011, it was revealed that Hotz and Sony had reached a settlement out of court. This included a permanent injunction against Hotz doing any more hacking work on any Sony products[11] to prevent any future firmwares from being decrypted.[12]

The claims (Filed in United States district court for Northern California, San Francisco):[2]

* Violating the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 1201)
* Violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (18 U.S.C. § 1030)
* Contributory copyright infringement (17 U.S.C. § 501)
* Violating California Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act (§ 502)
* Breach of Contract (related to the PlayStation Network User Agreement)
* Tortious interference
* Misappropriation
* Trespass

The cracking group Anonymous announced their intent to attack Sony websites in response to Sony's lawsuit and, specifically due to Sony's gaining access to the IP addresses of all the people who visited geohot's blog, terming it an 'offensive against free speech and internet freedom'[13][14] Although Anonymous admitted responsibility to subsequent attacks on the Sony websites, much speculation has arisen concerning a sustained collapse of the Playstation Network in April. Anonymous has denied that their attacks are the cause of its malfunction.[15] However, because the Anonymous group is amorphous and without central authority, it is hard to verify the authenticity or applicability of this statement.

According to Sony, the initial cause of the PSN and the company’s Qriocity service was due to an "external intrusion", and that it was subsequently kept off-line in order to facilitate an infrastructure upgrade as an apparent consequence of this attack. [16]

    Yay! I love Anon news! Updates on them are very much appreciated. Oh by the way Dawn have there been anymore updates with the WBC fight with Anon or was that a quick little thing?

    That seems to have been a quick one-and-done type situation. However we found some funny videos involving WBC counter protests that we will upload later.

    I'm with you on it being sonys fault. Though it is still possible that there was a branch off from anon and they took psn down themselves, I don't think they did but you can never be sure. The truth will come out soon, we just have to wait and see.

    I'm a bit lost, why was Anon at war with Sony?

    - DarkicoN13 April 24, 2011, 9:15 am
    Who's geohotz and why did he/her/they hack Sony?

    I think it was some off-branch group from Anon, either way its down and fuck them.

    Your honestly placing all of the blame on Anon for it? Think about how long PSN has/was down for? That seems more like incompetence on Sony's end and an inability to stand back up after being knocked down. Even if Anon did take PSN down (And we are NOT saying they did) Sony should have, being suck a large corporation, been able to recover quickly.

    Dawn its easter weekend you can't blame them for wanting friday and sunday off
    - DarkicoN13 April 24, 2011, 4:08 pm
    We can, and we will. Easter is a Christian holiday and we're sure some of Sony are actually not Christian. We didn't get Friday off, and between you, us, and the rest of Sharenator, we consider spending time with our family worse then working so there is no way that counts as a day off.
    - Dawn April 24, 2011, 4:30 pm
    Wtf "we consider spending time with our family worse then working so there is no way that counts as a day off." Emo much?
    - MalverdeAl100 April 24, 2011, 4:54 pm
    I agree that easter is a bunch of bullshit but hey i get a few days off and why didnt you get friday off? that sucks. Anyways happy zombie jesus day.

    The couple who adopted us were very wealthy, when they died we obtained full inheritance. Since we don't have much longer they are trying to kiss-ass all the time to get their own slice of the inheritance when we die. We're treated like a weak and pathetic little frail old lady when we're quite strong and self-reliant, and have more pride in our ability to go on living and functioning then Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino.
    We're not Emo, we just don't like our relatives that much.
    - Dawn April 24, 2011, 5:02 pm
    That's the best name for it we have ever heard ^^ From now on we're calling it Zombie Jesus Day.
    - Dawn April 24, 2011, 5:03 pm
    I get you now. I probably wouldn't like them much either
    - MalverdeAl100 April 24, 2011, 5:04 pm
    huh? frail little old lady how old is Dawn? Oh wait never mind I mean how old is Natu? (don't need to be exact just give us a ball park maybes?) And I couldn't picture Dawn as old and frail if I wanted to.
    - 24paperwings April 24, 2011, 5:12 pm
    Natu is somewhere beteween 25 and 35.
    - Dawn April 24, 2011, 5:15 pm
    Then why is Dawn saying Dawn doesn't have much longer! D: Dawn is ok isn't she!?!?!
    - 24paperwings April 24, 2011, 5:17 pm
    We do not wish to discuss this further.
    - Dawn April 24, 2011, 5:32 pm

    To clear things up, thus far no splinter groups of anon have fessed up to the PSN problems. The death panel while willing to offer its services in most anon campaigns did not in anyway support the war against Sony as we were stretched thin between multiple on going campaigns our latest involvement is the WBC issue. I will try to inform you all on what I find out if dawn hasn't already. And also thank you Dawn for making this post as I was just about to make one myself.

    The WBC aye, i hate those fuckers, if you need an extra hand, I offer my services, http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001878542080 just send me the link there if you need extra hands
    - Dragkyre April 24, 2011, 8:07 pm
    well we have everything under control and are considering a complete withdraw of our support in all current campaigns except operation freedom which we have been on the front lines of since day one. This withdraw is needed for our newest campaign of which we will be doing on our own accord I will be making a post later on in time going into detail about this campaign once it is underway and succeeding.
    - triclebickle April 25, 2011, 12:48 pm
    We like to support Anon, we just wish we could help more. However we lack the technical skills to be of much use.
    - Dawn April 25, 2011, 12:56 pm
    can you give us a hint as to what it is?
    - 24paperwings April 25, 2011, 1:30 pm
    all I can say is that it is in response to a big issue in American politics.
    - triclebickle April 25, 2011, 2:41 pm
    well every little bit counts and keeping sharenator up to date on issues is allowing others to focus on tasks at hand.

    my dad was telling my that amazon's servers have been down also which is a big deal because they host a lot of people and companies servers he thinks that sony might have some hosted there and it may be one fo the problems that they are facing, recently sony has also said that they have to rebuild the infrastructure of the PSN because they are afraid of the hackers in addition to the really rampant hacking that seemed to be going on even before this stuff was happening. I suppose that much of this is because PSN has a much less rigid format the XBL thus allowing for not only more freedom but on the flip side it also allows for more exploitation as well

    The possibility that SONY is hidden his own *incompetence* may be true, and it make sense, but still no matter what some people said, i dont believe that, there are always hackers who want to prove themselves that they can do anything and hack any security system, i believe that its not coincidence that after SONY sued Geohot the PSN went down, and in holidays... HOLY FU***** COINCIDENCE... but still, the first said, exist the possibility that all this mess is internal.

    We see valid reasoning, but we still firmly believe that the playerbase of the PSN should be mad at Sony for it's incompetence in cleaning up the mess. It shouldn't take so long for such a large corporation to get things working again.

    Welcome to Sharenator by the way, we're guessing since your name is new to us and your rank is pretty high up you've about just joined us. Soes once again Welcome. ^^
