There are many tricks to reducing this effect. But, if you know how to pour it correct, you don't get the fizz but a very little.

You know, you could just pour the drink more slowly and allow the fizz to die down. But who would want to do that? Waiting for things in life sucks!

hold the glass at an angle like youre pouring a beer. let the cola roll down the side.

1. Fill the glass with water first... then empty it. Bubbles form because the carbon dioxide catches on "rough edges" (on a microscopic scale), and glass, along with other micro-debris (such as dust) make it a very rough surface.
Coating with water will make this very smooth =)

2. Angle the glass before pouring... eg... pour the coke onto the side of the glass, rather than straight to the bottom. this minimises splashing or "folding" of the liquid, which prevents some gas from escaping.
