Do You Think Marijuana Should Be Legal?
I'm just wondering if any of you think it should be legal in the U.S
Like me! :)
It doesn't cause any long term affects.
Doesn't cause cancer.
Safer than tobacco and alcohol.
And the sale of it can boost the economy.

100% YES! Will help reduce prison populations, more revenue for the US from taxes, add jobs, and increase junk food sales across country
yah u say this but people couldent work to pay taxes if they we high all the time and with no money no drugs to pay the tax on it wich leads to crime so they can get money to buy it and they so it will work out as less jobs more prison sntancs and junk food will always have good sales anyway

I've never been high, but I do know a few things like when you're high, you drive better. The only reason why people do it so much is because it is illegal. It's natural for people to want to do things that it is illegal for them to do. After a while of it being legal, people will begin to lose interest in it, and the sales of marijuana will eventually begin to decline.
EDIT: (Addition) I honestly think that the status of legallity with marijuana should stay the same. Illegal for everyday use, but legal for medical purposes. The only people who get marijuana from a hospital are the people who are already condemned to death from cancer or some other disease. Marijuana in that case would be good for you because marijuana makes you hungry and by eating, you're actually making yourself healthier to a degree. Another benefit is that when you're high, you don't really give a shit about your cancer. Therefore, I conclude that marijuana's status should stay unchanged.

hell know it dose well because when u high u think your going like 100 miles an hour when you are acctully going 20. when your drunk u think your going 20 and your hitting 100
i dont even smoke and it should be legalized its from mother earth and people could make money let people be happy!
Here's my thoughts on the subject... excuse me first...

i say hell yes 100% because the only way you can die from it is if you smoke 100,00 joints in under an hour and the reason why that would kill ya is because of lack of oxygen, it helps kimo and aids patients gain weight, it calms you down, it helps with ADD and ADHD, it is the biggest cash crop in the world, it would give the prisons and jails more room to hold the people who actually belong there, and if it grows in the ground it was made for me.
Well I gotta give stewiz one point, kids will most likely have easy access to it like alcohol and tobacco. But for my point of view, I think it should, because today's youth are tomorrow's leaders and they're going to legalize it for their own protection anyway, so why not do something that's inevitable?
i get more access to weed than i do alcohol and tabacco combined.
I smoked quite a bit when I was younger and thought it was fine!
Nowadays it is so much more potent! I see the state my 15yr old comes home in and I really don't think its clever at all!
He has changed so much not just mentally but physically, he can't be arsed to do fuck all anymore unless it's worth his while to get some cash! Mood swings you've seen nothing like it!
As soon as he turns 16 he out if he carries on!
Don't get me wrong I will still have an odd bifta when the urge takes me but I know thats it an odd one! Call it hopocrisy but I've always earnt the money to do it and never did it at his age when i was still in education.
I do believe it is so much more addictive nowadays!
It does also cause cancer and how can it be safer than tobacco when the majority of the time it is mixed with it?

maybe he became a teenager? trust me i know many people my age who dont smoke and still cant be arsed to do fuck all, time to face the facts and realise he's 15 and feels rebelious
It shouldnt be legal because we already have en ough durnk, high, and wonked out dead beats here. Why the hell would we want more. My great uncle cant ever read or write because he was idiot enough to do what your asking to make legal. And it kills brain cells.... so yesh make it legal.
As a person with medicla issues which cause me the need to use Marijuana. I say I'm for legalization. Yes, it's an economic boost. California reported just off it's recorded (which is 25% estimation)illegal sales the state would have made 2.2billion dollars on taxes off pot. I would like to be able to buy it legally when I need it for my medical issues.
As far as recreational. That's to the person. I refrain from smoking when I need to work, do anything productive, or go in public. I only smoke when I'm ill, which I smoke heavily. Or when I have a day off to do nothing, then I smoke light and enjoy myself until the day ends.
I do think it should be legal, as I also see other peoples points where it should stay illegal. Either or I just wish people would make up their minds. Feds say illegal, state says legal, so depending on the uniform I can get in trouble for it. That's the part I really hate.
Though I'm just one more voice in this world of noise, I cast a vote on this as it bears heavily on my quality of life, yes, legazlize please.

These are all some really great points with the exception of those ignorant people who are calling other people names and being rude.
I'm on the fence I think swaying more towards legalization. I see pot as on the same level as cigarettes and booze. A lot of the studies about the effects of marijuana are inconclusive because most people who smoke pot also smoke cigarettes (i.e. mary jane causes cancer and lung immune responses). For those who don't smoke cigarettes you have a higher risk of getting lung infections because of the long term smoke exposure in the lungs. Ganja has the same effect as alcohol on your response time while driving.
The good point I see in it is that it is helpful. Especially for cancer patients. It is a natural pain killer and appetite booster. It helped me get my sleep back on track when I was a major insomniac...better than any meds they gave me for sleep (Ambien, Xanax, Seroquel) and with a lot less side effects. I didn't wake up in a haze.
Bud is no better, no worse than cigarettes or alcohol. Long term abuse of both cigarettes and alcohol will kill you or damage your body but they are legal. Long term abuse of legal medication can kill you or damage your body but FDA says they are ok. They tell us the studies of people who abuse but what about those who use in moderation? Not just herb but alcohol (I'm leaving out smokes because they are just bad all around) because they say red wine can reduce the risk of heart disease, certain cancers and slow the progression of neurological degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. And I haven't even gotten into the benefits of hemp.
I don't think things will change if marijuana is legalized other than more jobs, economy boost, taxes and less money spent in the legal system for small time pot charges. People are still going to smoke it as they did before. You will still have the "responsible" smoker who only smokes at home and doesn't let it interfere with their daily lives. You will still have the stoner that can't function unless they smoke. There will still be a stigma about smoking pot.
It is no better, no worse.

I used to be all for the legalization of pot, not because I smoke it (never have, don't plan to), but because of the likely economic boon of its taxation. However, many-a-debate has changed my mind on the issue.
While pot is not narcotically addicting, it is unquestionably psychologically addicting. For a comparison, those of you who watch porn should try and stop watching porn, and see if it is easy, hard, or impossible. If it's one of the last two, you are psychologically addicted to something, just like heavy smokers are to pot.
But, despite that, it is generally less harmful than its tobacco counterpart, right? Yes, but the bottom line is, in fact, you are inhaling smoke. The human body is not meant to inhale smoke, and that action can cause serious health problems. I also promote illegality of cigarettes.
The proposed legalization legislation often involves pot only being sold at smoke shops, generally closely watched/run by the government (at least at a state level). However, if this happens, why would any pot dealer stop selling pot? People will probably still buy it illegally, for cheap, without tax, not get caught, and have less penalty if they eventually do.
Finally, tobacco companies. This is the point that eventually swayed me to be against legalization: the tobacco companies will inevitably get a hold on the marijuana industry. Why? Because it's one of the biggest markets available today that remains untapped. Once they do, they add in their addictive substances, carcinogens, etc.... well, their evil propagates. And who the hell wants tobacco companies to grow?

Alright i myself have smoked pot for about two years, ya i know that's not very long and its not affecting me that much. Also i have drank gallons of whiskey and beer over two years and that has not affected me at all. i say legalize it but over 18 and no driving under influence. It would save alot of prison space from alot of potheads that only had 2 grams but got caught three times with it. Im all for legalizing pot not actually for making jobs, but for its fun. i feel great when i smoke i have a great time and i always plan ahead and have plenty of munchies laying around when i do. ive never been hurt smoking and im a straight b student so suck it pot haters
Perhaps instead of saying, "Alcohol is worse than Marijuana, we should legalize Marijuana" we should say "Alcohol is worse than Marijuana, we should put restrictions on both, but possibly integrate both in a more limited fashion into society."
why does anyone give a shit what other people do when their actions will not affect others in any negative way? PEOPLE WILL BE HIGH!!!! OH SHIT!!! THATS SO BAD, PEOPLE WILL BE NOT SOBER?! who gives a shit if anyone is high all the time, all it will do is make them lazy and not want to do things or change things, and thats their own problem, thats their own choice. I can go home and eat a box of rat poison, but i wont do that, because I'm not an idiot. Im tired of society trying to control other people because somehow, people can say that other people are SO STUPID and they need to be controlled...let stupid people be stupid...the world would be a better place...they would do stupid shit like heroine and die...shit...
also, THE GOVERNMENT DOESNT CARE THAT SOMETHING IS BAD FOR YOU. PERSCRIPTION MEDICATION IS IN MANY CASES WORSE FOR YOU THAN MOST ILLEGAL DRUGS ON THE STREET. such as opium...every stupid, sheepish person goes and gets hurt and takes pain killers....its OPIUM its a plant, manipulated so its even WORSE for you and more addictive than it is naturally. That is essentially what heroine is, altered and manipulated opium. This capitalistic government and society is concerned about one thing, and that is money. So dont think that things are illegal to "protect" you. As part of my rights as a human, i have the right to go home and cut my hand off. I have the right to go home and eat rat poison, or take something that will harm me. I have the right to do WHAT I WANT to myself WHEN I WANT to. That doesn't mean...that i will....Stop worrying about what other people do, they can handle themselves, if they cant, its called natural selection. Get the human condition out of your head and just like....think.....THINK FOR YOURSELF, NOT FROM WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TOLD YOU

I enjoy the debate, but i don't agree so I am gonna give you a point. One, there is no real reason for the legalization and no real benefit. Two, if the US ever does legalize it, it will be for medical uses and medical uses only. Its sad, I know.
Marijuana does do long term effects to your brain cells. If you have ever met a long term user of Marijuana then you would notice that their reaction time and speech is drastically far from what the average persons should be. The only real reason I would like to see it legalized is so that Pot heads will stop complaining about it being illegal.

Is that so?? Well explain this. I frequently smoke Marijuana. I am also an A student. I'm one of the smartest people in my school, and I have been smoking for years. It doesn't kill brain cells, it just temporarily blocks nerve receptors.
Now tell me this. How many people have died from marijuana overdose? How many have smoked a joint and crashed their car of a bridge? There is nothing wrong with smoking weed. GOD put it on this earth for a reason. There are alot of benefits to marijuana too. like hemp for example. marijuana is good. there is no reason it should be legal.

Right on Bloodsworth, when was the last time a stoner robbed a bank or went on a shooting spree? +3 for the post btw mienftw. Great topic!

Bloodsworth there have been studies that show it kills brain cells. i have seen it in documentaries. long term users have a significantly slower reaction time and their speech is slower. and if your still in school you havent been smoking for a long time. long term is more than a few years.
I have nothing against legalisation of weed in the USA, partly because i'm from the UK xD, but i should point out that it's true weed does have effects on people, particularly on their brain. I don't care if you're a student who has smoked for years, we're talking longer periods, i know guys in their 40's who are totally messed up, nice guys but they've ruined themselves quite a lot. just like smoking, it can takes many many years before you get a real problem, but doesn't mean it wont cause problems. Granted you don't hear of any deaths being caused by smoking weed, especially compared to alcohol and tobacco, this i mainly because of the percentage of people who smoke or drink compared to the percentage of people who smoke cannabis.
In the UK 2 million people smoke cannabis once every two months atleast, 10 million people smoke tobacco once every week atleast. Over 50 million people drink alcohol regularly.
We have a population of just over 60 million for those of you who didn't know :)

I know a lot of people that have crashed due to smoking Marijuana because it does basically the same thing as alcohol- ills your reaction time. If you get A's and you do smoke smoke a lot your a minority in the Pot head world. But think of it like this, its a drug for kids. Stop whining and do coke like an adult.
honestly you cant even compare the two. For one weed isn't addictive and I've never heard of someone giving they're pants or giving hand jobs for weed. Also I too make straight A's and i smoke pot all the time.... furthermore I only crashed one car in my life and I hadn't smoked in days!
I used to give hand jobs for weed....
As far as weed being addictive, I really think it is a mental disorder. I've known friends who were addicted and couldn't function or deal with their emotions unless they were fucked up and when weed no longer did the trick, they tried out the harder stuff. I've know friends that could just smoke every now and then and that was it. I could go on and on with comparisons. I feel that addiction has to do with brain chemistry. If things like marijuana and booze and coke and caffeine and etc. are addictive then how are some people able to go on functioning without having to use it (that need as seen in addiction) and others can not?

Stewiz sounds like a fucking retard, basically stating he has no self control and that he enjoys having his life premeditated and simply laid out for him. Wow, you sound like someone I would want to hang around with....
Marijuana legalization would benefit many more people and help the economy much more than people think. With government funding being able to go towards other issues rather than locking people up for smoking and selling an herb, there would be a MASSIVE debt reduction right away. We could create jobs in manufacturing of not only marijuana to be smoked, but hemp to be utilized, oils to be used from the plant (which has many uses and benefits). Hemp is a more readily available to be used in manufacturing of clothing and paper than pulp and cotton, and until we can legalize marijuana to be used and studied, nothing will happen with an amazing plant that has tonnes to offer OTHER than getting you a little happy feeling should you dry and smoke the unfertilized flowers off of a female cannabis plant.
Oh, and anyone who goes insane, "snuffs" it, or nearly DIES because they smoked marijuana, is either a fucking whacko, smoked some really bad shit, or is pulling your leg because your fucking gullible and STUPID

Also do u know what else would reduce the foverent dedicate? If we quit with this stupid stimules package and don't have govt run health care. The more the govt gets involved in things the worse it gets. Look @ social security. Govt couldn't handle that so I don't want them trying to handle antlything else.

could please proofread before you post. and during a debate on a serious topic like this it would be nice if you didn't use internet slang/shorthand.
Anyway, i oppose marijuana legalization even though it would be safer because the government could regulate it and also tax it, but would a bunch of potheads be any help in factories and other jobs?? would a bunch of potheads pay the taxes required on the marijuana? i think not.

to be honest there is too much drugs going round where i live its all people realy do so im always around it and i know that it goes to the kids like 12 13 year olds wich i find it the worst thing about it and thats wat i mean if it where legal and you could buy it over the counter of a store it would be even more acsesable to the teenagers as beer is so unbevilably easy to get and ciggerets are the same thats why i dont belive that if it where legal it would reduces prison sentances i think it would go on the increase it would just be a differant crime that is being commited
Ok it does kill brain cells. Anything that alters your state of mind does kill brain cells. If you say that it doesn't you could also say that sniffing gas, glue, and other inhalants doesn't kill brain cells. Also it has been shown that weed kills ambition and self-motivation in humans. In addition, if you look at mental disabilities in children that they have had since birth, those mental disabilities can be linked to drug use. It has been shown that people who use drugs such as marijuana, have an increased risk of having a child that is born with a mental disability such as autism, dyslexia, and Down Syndrome. Also for you people who wont believe me on those points, how can you tell me that inhaling smoke without a filter has no negative effects on your lungs. If you stand above a small fire and all you do is inhale the smoke, of course it is going to be bad for your lungs.
It gives you brain damage
