    I am a huge fantasy reader, and I still haven't read Lord of the Rings. I give a book 100 pages to catch my interest. I gave Lord of the Rings 183 pages, and the damn thing was boring as shit.

    The original Dragon Lance series is much better and much more epic.

      yea the first book doesnt take off till you get after Tom Bombadil it was his first try at writing and is a bit slow for the first half then it picks up

      It was real hard to get through LOTR after reading the Dragon Lance series. Start with the Hobbit, it'll help you get used to Tolkien's writing style. First time I tried to read LOTR was in the early 90's, I just managed to get through it when the first movie came out... and it was not easy lol. After the first half of the first book it starts to get pretty good.
