So, stop shitting yourselves over a stupid thunderstorm, acting like you have to leave your state and protect your values, and just deal with it. Save your brick shitting for something that deserves it. Naturally, all the tv stations are also hyping it up and covering it nonstop. NOT TO MENTION THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA, SAID THIS HURRICANE WOULD BE "HISTORIC". HISTORIC? This "hurricane" is barely a category 2. Shut the fuck up and deal with it. Pussies.

That is all.

I agree with you, although I live in the UK.

Just remember, because "New York" have declared emergency, doesn't mean the PEOPLE of New York have declared this. Take it out on the city council (or whatever you call them), because they are the ones who declared the emergency.

Yeah, he thought himself a reasonable guy too.

They are covering the hurricane because it is dramatic, and drama sells.

And please, don't confuse the media based in New York City with the people who actually live there, and don't you EVER confuse the people who live in New York City with the people that live in the rest of the state.

My aunt, who lives in Norfolk, VA, had to evacuate her home this morning. I have yet to hear any coverage of the area. And according to geography, this place will be hit before New York. I don't give two fucks about if Wall Street crashes. I just want to know what's going on in VA atm.

I'm not familiar with the land elevation with Virginia but by the time it reaches over their I think it should be a category 1 or lower. Shouldn't do that much damage but there is always reason to worry.
Posted: 2011-08-26 15:12:21 Report Reply
I don't know shit about hurricanes as I live in the Midwest. So thank you for your evaluation. I'd rather hear of this stuff from people who live through it, not get payed to talk about it. I don't think the land elevation is too high since the city is right on the ocean and seems to be pretty level with it. Also, it's home to the largest Naval base in the world.
Posted: 2011-08-26 15:15:20 Report Reply
No problem. All I can say is, it'll pass through a vast amount of land before it reaches Virginia which means it'll weaken a good bit. From what I hear the wind speed shouldn't be that drastic but you can never be sure. One reason why the hurricanes near the gulf coast are so dangerous is because of the water temperature. The warmer the water, the stronger the storm gets. But I am glad that hurricanes are being taken seriously now and people are evacuating these days instead of trying to stick it out. Prayers are with your aunt and her belongings.

Top to bottom your post is correct. The Yankees are freaking out over a storm. A storm so weak that it would not stop us from going to work, going to school or living our life. But as we see, the childish hater, well you know the rest.
Posted: 2011-09-02 08:14:57 Report Reply
No I get it perfectly it's a shit deal but it happens every year and for the national news networks to cover every place that's hit would be asinine it would almost be like covering every earthquake in California or covering every tornado in the mid-west. Now if shit hit the fan more than it already did then you will get the coverage that you think is necessary for a category 1 hurricane. And another thing that you need to realize is that new york city has skyscrapers, and even a tropical storm can do severe damage to the integrity of a structure with a high center of gravity. This means that there is much more at stake for the upper east coast which isn't normally hit with big storms on a yearly basis and thus isn't prepared for such an event unlike the lower east coast and golf coast areas.

actually one of the reasons people around here are worried is because the homes are not built to withstand this kind of weather in the slightest. we get them mostly for the colder weather which has to do with more of a weight issue than it does of constant powerful wind. this has potential to be dangerous not just because we are not used to this but because many of the places up here won't be able to withstand even a level 1 hurricane.
Posted: 2011-08-26 20:41:57 Report Reply
By the time it reaches New York it'll probably be either a very weak cat 1 or tropical storm. I'm sure NY can handle that.
Posted: 2011-08-27 03:36:19 Report Reply
I know but I'm just pointing out that they do have a logical reason to be worried. There is no reason for them to leave the state but there is plenty of reason to worry. People in New York don't know how to react to this and taking extra precautions never hurt anyone. At least the storm won't shut down the entire country for a week.
Posted: 2011-08-27 03:58:15 Report Reply
Oh, there is always reason to worry. But it's the hype. Obama saying it will be "historic", CNN anchors saying we've never seen anything like it before, etc. It's just the media that's bugging me.
Posted: 2011-08-27 04:00:35 Report Reply
The reason we get so much more coverage is because it's unusual for us to get a storm this powerful. This is something that interests the public. The people in the south are so used to this that honestly it's no big deal. They don't have to worry much. I know that this is being made to look bigger than it is but many people in MA really don't give a shit at this point cause we know it's all hype. But think about it if an enormous snow storm where to reach florida then they would get much more media coverage than what happens up north. Thats because it is unusual and keep the publics interest. Remember the public is fickle. We don't pay attention to anything that isn't interesting. the media is just jumping on it to gain more money. As soon as it passes it'll go right back to the south and the damage that was caused there because that'll be the only area with any real damage.
Posted: 2011-08-27 04:16:42 Report Reply
That's true. I would shit myself if we had a blizzard over here haha. But I think in todays age, when people hear hurricane, they think back to Katrina and all the destruction because that's the most famous one in recent history. So most people would panic. CNN was all covering NY yesterday when the Carolinas would be getting the most destruction. That's mostly what got me going. It's not just NY, but that's all anyone is talking about. But yeah, you're right.
Posted: 2011-08-27 04:21:45 Report Reply
Exactly when you live in a certain area then you choose to live with a certain weather pattern. When the pattern changes people start to panic. Many people around here deal with the blizzards out west they have tornados down south hurricanes. when one of these hits and area not used to it then much more damage is caused but also a lot of hype could be built up over nothing. It really depends. In all likelihood nothing will happen but people are scared and the media is just jumping on it for attention. Just ignore it and it'll be gone by the time it hits MA.
Posted: 2011-08-27 04:27:31 Report Reply
Also, just looked on weather.com, there is another disturbance brewing off by Africa. Tropical Depression at the moment, may die off, may get stronger. It looks to be headed towards the East Coast. Just an update.
Posted: 2011-08-27 03:38:48 Report Reply
people are worried up there for a multitude of reasons. i mean, think about with the earthquake that just happened. everyone on the west coast was laughing at them but really, it actually is bad, even for a 5.9 simply because the easst coast was not only NOT prepared as a public, but also the building's structural integrity couldnt handle something even that small.
the hurricane kinda goes with that. granted, media ALWAYS blows things out, but for those of us who are more knowledgeable, it still doesnt make us less fearful/worrisome.

Practice what you preach. You're getting pissed off over people on the internet. Look at that word again. INTERNET. Do you have any idea how much people on the anonymous, vast, space of the internet really care about what you think? They see you getting mad, they will only try and make you even more mad, and right now, they're succeeding. The only person who has said anything even remotely close to insulting is the person at the beginning of this string of comments. The first comment in the post? There was no reason to act like a child about that. Simply pointing out the fact that you are mad. Whoopty-doo... where's the insult in that? And calling him gay... really? I'm gonna say this again. Grow up kid. Seriously.

"Simply pointing out the fact that you are mad." Lmao. I'm not pissed off. I just made my post not boring. I put emotion into it is the best way I can put it. Yes, the first guy didn't really do anything blatant but it still is instigating. Also, do you think that people just read peoples posts and not consider them? This is the INTERNET, as you stated. People get all their research and information off of it these days. I'm sure people care what other people think. Maybe not all, but certainly not none. I don't regret anything I've posted so far because nothing I've done is out of line.

You're still acting like a child when they respond with something you don't like though, and there-in lies the problem. You want to voice your opinion, fine, but don't throw a temper tantrum when other people are voicing their own. It makes you a hypocrite.
Posted: 2011-08-26 14:45:35 Report Reply
I don't think you understand what I'm saying.
This is what I'm basing my actions off of this, in this situation:

If they disagree fine. I encourage that. But if I get insulted or provoked, I'm going to respond in some way.

As for acting like a child, I really don't know what you're talking about or see how I am. Growns up don't get mad or get into discussions? That's all politics is pal. Just stop and think about what your typing before you submit it. It helps.

Replying to people who couldn't care less is only going to make them laugh at your infintile rage. Don't bother trying to deny it, cause no one cares and you'll still be treated like a raging fool. Calling someone gay just because they perform the most insignificant act of trolling. That IS the kind of shit a 13 year old would say. Being provoked by something like that only makes yourself look even more like a fool. Do yourself a favor, and rack your brain on what you say before you click submit, and then maybe you'll see that you're the only one here who's acting like a child. Go cry about it to someone else, cause I don't care either.
