Canada's Election results
The results: A conservative Majority with Stephen Harper as Prime Minister. This is their first majorty since the 80's, when Brian Mulroney was in charge
Seats: Conservatives: 166
New Democrats: 104 (Highest in the party's history, making them the opposition party
Liberals: 34 (Their worst defeat in the country's history)
Bloc Quebecios: 4 (Less than they've ever had, due to the NDP surge. As a separatist movement, it's unlikely they'll regain power. )
Green: 1
Thoughts?

Canada has elections? :P obviously I'm kidding I actually really like canada though I've only been up there once though. But when I went it was awesome. I'm hoping to go up there again at some point with a bunch of my friends.
I wish the U.S. had this many parties for election instead of the 2 we have. It's fucking bullshit to pick from 2 guys you dont like to run. Oh i think stephen harper is a piece of shit prime minister from all the bad things ive heard of him
Well we dooooo have more than two parties but the two parties have basically made it impossible for a third party to run against them
Yes it takes to much money for another party to start up. Unless somethign happens soon there wont be a party to stand up to them 2
Oh i know you have have the ability to shit gold in order to run for president as an independant
Alternative voting would help. Here's how it works:
Say back in 2001 you wanted to vote for Ralph Nader, but you still didn't want to throw the election to Bush. With alternative voting, you could pick your top 2 candidates so this way, if Nader comes nowhere near winning, your vote would have transferred to Al Gore. This would encourage more people to vote for independents, without throwing the election to whichever party they think is the greater of 2 evils.

The only problem with having so many parties is that we often end up with minority governments. With too much divided support, the party leaders just bicker and parliament rarely makes any significant changes. Not to mention these govt's are unstable, and they can call an election at the drop of a hat.
I think they should get rid of the Bloc and The green party, they arn't going to win any time soon
No surprises, that's for sure. Normally a conservative majority wouldn't bother me too much, except Harper has far too much control over his MPs (His way or the high way, and he's too conservative for my liking. If anyone else was leading the party, I may well have voted for them) I suspect that Jack Layton will be a very strong opposition leader, and considering how left wing the NDP is compared to them, it should balance things out more or less.
Wow i'm really surprised harper came out on top this time, and the liberals got crushed. Thats insane... i would have thought Liberals or even NDP would win. And like PwnzElite said the Bloc is a joke, same with the green party... Hell i didn't even know there was a green party until this year.
I think part of the problem is voter turn out. Only 58% voted, an all time low. Typically, people who vote conservative will always do so, wheras the other party bases are inclined to shift depending on issues. I suspect when 42% decide none of the candidates deserve a vote, that paves the way for the conservative base.
But in this case, why isn't any party trying to tap into the "None of the above" vote? If someone can get even most of them to vote, they could easily have a majority combined with the support they'll get regardless.

Well i don't really blame people for not voting, hell i don't plan on voting when i'm 18 because i don't really care about politics to much and i have absolutely no faith in the government.
Well, if you don't vote, you're throwing away your right to complain. Anyone who didn't vote is just as responsible for a shitty gov't being elected as anyone who voted for it, because you didn't take the time to vote against it. As for having no faith in gov't, would you prefer anarchy or monarchy? I wouldn't. As Elizabeth May once said: "Democracy is not a spectator sport."
To be clear, Canadian conservatives are not the same as Americans. As a more progressive country in general, our conservatives are typically more moderate wheras in the US they are often much more right wing, sometimes to the extreme. Then Europe is a completely different story.
I am not even talking about america I mean thats like because some dump fucks just vote the same as their daddies and daddies think every fuck is true in the bible and when a preacher says somewhere in the bible may be something about homosexuals going to hell they believe it
okay there are a lot of dump fucks where they dont know what they are voting and they are just voting that because of their parents
I just kinda thought of the US right now because they are so in voting its like if you dont vote you are a nazi
but why vote if you dont even know what you are voting?
anyways in other countries conservatives often win and often fuck up but get reelected
at least what I get from the news
I am talking about europe
sometimes it is kinda different that the conservatives arent conservative and liberals want to outlaw condoms or something
I dont think it is that different its just in some european countries there arent even conservatives directly but some parties are just conservative because they are just that stupid
I mean like a kinda conservative party tries to be liberal by saying there have to be a woman quota WTF? like when there is a quota they get paid more, they should let them get the same money but dont use a stupid quota
oh and conservatives never ever try something different
like if the prices go up you should "pump" money into the economy but what they do is saving money because thats what they always did
actually its just more about that always the same party wins kinda
