hahaha wow... I've already rallied the Marines on facebook and half the army here is against me now... Still, good post.
You think Marine Corps is tough? Try United States Air Force Pararescue boot camp.
Hey man I'm not sayin all the other branches suck. My dad served in the Marine Corp for 20 years as an infantryman. He served with both marines and men in the army while in iraq and told me some of the best people he worked with were in the army. If you want to here about this read the book, "The Majestic Twelve" by Jack Lynch. It is a great book.
But as far as comparing a special forces group to an entire branch, that is a losers argument and it could be countered anyways by Marine Force Recon or MARSOC.

My family has had every job in the military since the U.S.A Has been formed. So I like every branch. Im just saying Pj's are hardcore.
yes they are. all special forces are hardcore. but lets be honest for a moment. would you really trying to compare AirForce basic training to marine's basic training? of the 5 armed forces, if you include(i do) the coast guard, i think we can all agree that the USMC is the hardest of them all.
No you can't because every branch has different jobs that require dofferent skills. So you have to remeber the mental toughness of it.
From the Halls of Montezuma,
To the shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.
Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job
The United States Marines.
Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven’s scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

in the army you have forts. we marinies never stick around that long, so we have camps.

badass score..and goodluck with that. i dont have an MOS or shipdate. ive just been talking to him and looking into it a lot. im not sure if my score is good. my recruiter was really proud of me but i feel like C average and i dont want that.
97 here, and im a paratrooper... id advise you to try to get ur recruiters to give you the Army Airborne School... best time you'll have, and not alot of Marines get in...
yeah i noticed, we had like 67 ppl in my platoon, with about 12 marines, and 7 of them were recon, one was my chalk leader, was probably one of the coolest guys ive met in the military as far as being a not-dicked up leader
I can tell all of you from experience not to underestimate Air Force boot camp. I went through it 4 years ago and it wasn't that tough. I also went through Air Force PJ training and that is seriously hardcore stuff. However when i went through the new basic training regiment that the Air Force is now applying it's much much tougher. Our basic training still isn't Marine tough but i would be willing to our PJ training up against Recon any day. Hurray for the Chair Force for finally toughening up!!! And just an FYI Afghanistan is hot as hell.
it depends on MOS johne... we did ours (Infantry), lasted 9 days, involved about 62km of roadmarching in the last 3 days or so... anyone besides infantry in teh army has an extremely easy basic...
we are talking basic vs basic, not basic vs schools. to the point i think you are trying to make i agree. there are many difficult schools in all the armed forces. but when it comes to who has the most difficult basic, Marines all the way.
i guess it could be argued either way, we never left, we were there for 17 weeks, same place and ppl and Drill Sgts...
They still fight for france though, who cares where they come from, if all the best soldiers the french had fought in the legion and subsequently got killed etc there probably wouldnt be enough of them for it to last as a fighting force, just look at the ss, briliant soldiers but once they were all gone that was game over.
"Over 30,000 foreign nationals have taken advantage of an offer by the United States Army. If they agree to fight in Iraq they will be given what they have thirsted for US citizenship, that is if they live through their deployment in Iraq...
...Of the more than 30,000 new enlistees there are those of Mexican, Portuguese, Latin American and German decent who wish to become American citizens by risking life and limb in a war that is no longer popular in this country. It has been reported that were it not for these foreign nationals willing to give their lives in exchange for citizenship in the grand ole USA, that our countries military would not have been able to come up with enough soldiers currently needed in the conflict in Iraq as they represent 5% of all new recruits."
Still think it's shameful to France that they have a small regiment of foreign nationals? The exact same thing has been done since the ancient Romans after all.

I am aware that we have a programs that let people fight for our country to gain citizenship. There is a program just like this for the Marine Corp. But what France is doing is a little bit different. They have foreigners be their best, their special forces almost. It would be like us using 90% Cubans to be our Navy Seals and Delta Force.
Ok you've got me there, there is a difference. But they're not really 'special forces' in the way of Delta, the Seals or SAS (there's the French Army Special Forces Brigade for that), more an 'elite' military unit like our Royal Marine Commandos or Paras, or your Rangers (if that is what the Rangers are I dont really know much about them).
Also when the Foreign Legion were created they were really just the lowest of the low to the French (most recruits were criminals), and would only be sent to France's colonies. Their base was in Algeria and they were so looked down on that I think until France got desperate in WW1 there was a rule that they couldn't be deployed within France itself.
And if you think about it its quite shrewd on the part of France, they get the use of a crack unit to send to all the shitholes, where deaths won't affect public opinion because the legionaires don't have families in France, and they get an influx of recruits with an unusualy broad range of language skills and military experience already trained at the expense of other armies, such as when there was a large influx of battle hardened Germans (even SS) after WW2 or in the 80s when large numbers of British Paras joined for the better pay.
Sorry if that was TLDR
