    - Nunya February 23, 2012, 12:29 am
I am from the south, and it is as far as you want it to be. Not quite as far as way over yonder.
    - defmid26 February 23, 2012, 10:50 am
I'm from the South and that is a legitimate response that is ok to have.

When people first came to america they wanted to differentiate themselves from great britain so they decided to make everything up themselves like big boys

Really? The British still use some of these measurements (but our government is saying we use metric). Metric is taught in schools, but we still use some imperial terms. Eg: often people weigh themselves in pounds and stone (1stone = 14lbs), height in feet and inches, distances in miles an yards, and drinks such as milk and beer in pints.

that was sarcasm lol. we need to make a sarcasm font
    - bufus101 February 23, 2012, 9:00 am
Yeah, if only we had a sarcasm font..
    - drakengard85 February 23, 2012, 5:50 pm
teach me the ways, great master of the text fonts

I do not think you are prepared for this level of text...

you see i actually think that Fahrenheit is better than Celsius because in terms of every day life Fahrenheit is more useful, thats because it is more tuned to a human body than water. if you go 5 degrees up or down in Celsius its a much more dramatic change than Fahrenheit, that way you get a better gauge of the weather i can take away more from a forecast saying 60 today 45 tomorrow than say 32 today 30 tomorrow it just fits better to me

This, is why decimals come in handy. But all of this aside, Celsius is just based on the temperature of water (0=freezing point) so in chemistry, this system can be more useful.

i say we all switch to kelvins
    - poopiteepoop February 23, 2012, 2:42 pm
Haha yay kelvins, water freezes at 273.15 degrees :D
    So awesome.
    - Icelandgirly February 23, 2012, 5:19 pm
0 Kelvin is absolute zero. That is the temperature that is impossible to reach.
    - Disco February 23, 2012, 8:04 pm
i thought they just used kelvin in chemistry not farenheight or celsius
    - Tremp20k February 23, 2012, 10:33 pm
Kelvin is whatever celcius is + 273. They wanted absolute zero to be represented by a 0 rather than -273.
    - Disco February 24, 2012, 6:36 am
but scientist for the most part use kelvin right?
    - Tremp20k February 24, 2012, 7:20 am
    Not 273 but 273.15

    I fucking love America!
    This chart is 100% accurate.
I'm honestly only going to use the metric system out of necessity but my "better" instinct, the one that hates math, is telling me it'll be muy scarioso.
Still, I fucking love the world!
It's a shame it's filled with hate and bitches, yo.

They each have their uses. Would you rather say "I am 5 feet tall" or "I am 1.524 meters tall" ?

I guess if your every day life involves heating things to exact degrees of temperature or measuring the exact distance of something, the other system would be more convenient.
