American hegemony

America is a hegemonic power and has been one since many of us have been very young or not yet born. It was seen at a gift in the beginning other countries didn't need to focus on their military as much they were able to focus more on their economies and rebuilding, but lately the world has seen this gift as a curse more and more.

This got me thinking what would happen if America suddenly stopped acting as the worlds police force and let the rest of the world fend for itself in the areas that we had been taking care of. I think that if we were to make an almost complete withdraw of troops on an international spectrum, drag our manufactures back within our borders, send the UN outside of our borders to a place like Europe, take care of our internal affairs, pay off our international debt, and rebuild our economy restoring our hegemonic capability to its former self but stay on the sidelines of things eventually the rest of the world would notice our absence. The Islamic world would purge itself of westernization, north and south korea might go toe to toe again china might get involved or it would sit it out, the EU wouldn't be able to maintain order in the UN more countries would go unheard and thus leave the UN, and then eventually countries will go to war with each other. Now I can't know for sure until it's actually done but I can make educated guesses that could turn out to be very accurate.
So those are my guesses of what would result in the withdraw and extended absence of American hegemonic influence, now I want to know what yours are?

i think it would be a good idea, but to a degree.i dont like the idea of america policing the world as much as the next guy, but then again i dont like korea stomping around in a room with nuclear arms just to let the rest of the world know its there.that being said, alot of our resources are co-located in other countries, though not based, they are still a valuable asset.
the scary part in this is, when other countries take note that we are gone from our embessies, our overseas bases, what happens then? and im speaking of course on both ends of the spectrum. for the good, where is there protection? look at libya...granted i dont believe we should have been there but as soon as the U.N. stepped in and U.S. troops forces were taken out, look how they reacted! because the U.N. has no force of its own and they have to pool together to create an "army", it was no where near the size of forces that were aiding them in that time...when we left, look at their reactions! they were furious and upset and felt betrayed. this IS a cant just help someone in dire need like that and just leave them.
but then look at the other side-the "bad guys" for lack of a better description. we are no longer there, wind whistling through our bases...ghost towns. they could take hold, root their own base, take up arms and grow in power! then when they attack (which believe me, they will) there will honestly be no one there to stop them. and the people will side will them over sheer fear and the masses will grow. believe it or not, we dont have nukes and giant tanks and guns and ships and subs for an idea of attack...think about it, when will we need that? our nation is a natural made fortress. we have them for one simple reason-intimidation. its so that there is no worry of attack and world-wide terror. granted, its along the lines of policing, but is it no different from a group of armed soldiers keeping peace in a dusted, rundown town? no.

our whole economic crisis started in late 2006 with the housing bubble growing, and our houses going up 126% since 1996...if it were up to me, id close all the banks for 150 days, an extra 50 days more than roosevelt, and make our brand NEW deal. if not that, then id call on america and tell them that we will be going into a great depression and that it IS going to be hard and very scary. but understand that we will make it through, just like our grandparents and great-grandparents before us. eventually in time the third party companies will rise and in a few (i wont say short) years it will balance out and we will rise again.

not exactly a good idea. we shouldve went into a great depression and stopped hiding behind our mistakes. we look pitiful to the rest of the world. 3rd party companies would have risen and it would have balanced out. end of story.

bullshit all sorts of countries and their people want the US out i say if they dont want our help fuck em you dont get to ask for help complain while we are there then bitch that we left its driving me nuts that half the damn world wants our help and we can no longer afford that then when we are there its America stay out of other countries problems

also we would not withdraw from bases and embassies that is US soil and we own it

It's not like anyone wants help especially from the US. Most of the time any help would be welcome. But since Rusia and China are communist bastards and most countries in Europe don't have the military strength to help countries in need (or like Germany who luckily don't fight in any wars) no one else steps in.

And who exactly wants them to stay out of other countries problems?

tremp, i really cant read your response to the best of my ability because your missing punctuation in alot of places and im sure the entire paragraph(?) is one big run-on sentence.
also, U.S. oversea bases are NOT U.S. soil, so thats wrong. the land is placed under something called "Status of Forces Agreement" meaning, its NOT u.s. soil, but rather a country enabling whichever country that enacts this agreement the oppurtunity to use the host country in means of security. kinda like a symbiotic relationship on a national level. but as with your explanation i can only imagine you are speaking of libya. we did that because president obama could not sit idly by as gaddafi mistreated and harmed his own people. perhaps, with the Status of Forces Agreement in mind, maybe obama had something else in mind...hmmm? maybe? think about it.

as for curuba, if you were the leader of a lower level country of course you would look to big-shield, big stick america for help. thats all we do! we are the few countries that has "morals" and is willing to help anyone in need, even preemptively. its just, for my OWN PERSONAL BELIEFS, if you cant help yourself, then you cant help others...but understand, you cant sit idly by forever as someone takes over and finally mows the world down. but then again, you have to be smart about it. in this day and age, technology has made many impossible feats, VERY possible. sometimes we need that shield and big stick...when you're on the other side, you know.

tremp, i cant read your run-on sentence and U.S. bases are not U.S. soil and curuba, many countries want our help, and unfortunately, we help them.

Most of the usas functions would just be taken over by other countries... China would be economic super power and rusia would probably play world police. apart from that europe would have to actually turn into one big country to gain any real power.
But luckily the usa wouldn't step out of the UN. They are one of the 5 countries with veto powers. This gives them the chance to slightly control what China and Rusia are doing...

And please.... say the USA. Because america is canada and south america too. Not only the usa

okay if you would like I will edit the americas to USAs that aren't necessary for the vocabulary. And we wouldn't completely withdraw from the world in all fields we would just move the UN, and withdraw our troops and drag our manufacturing companies back to within our borders. we would still be members of the UN and we would still be an economic superpower. I can't tell for sure if Russia would have the economic capability to act as the world's police force although they would have the military capability.

They would probably try to take the spot...
But they only follow their own interests and give a crap about the lives of millions of people... The usa aren't the knight in shiny armor either but at least they try to help and always fight for freedom and democracy which is way better than rusia, who doesn't want to step into the conflict in syria where hundreds of civillians get killed by their own government, just because they sell this government weapons... It's a sad world where the world watches innocent people die just because a fucking scum country like rusia wants to sell more guns and stuff...

Russia while being massive arms dealers have improved since the days of USSR, china has found the balance of capitalism and communism that works for them but neither of them have the capability yet to take our place as a hegemony. Europe combined would have a hard time to take our place as the hegemony, it will remain Pax Americana for a very long time even when we aren't at our best we are still the chivalrous country that will help those in need not expecting to be payed back.
