I think he was saying that it says America can do all of this but every country has Internet so it's not all on America.

it made me want to research how electrons stay in orbit in an atom
apparently they don't know completely yet
Posted: 2010-10-29 07:04:30 Report Reply
dont they stay in orbit cos they're negaticely charged and they orbit around the positively charged protons and the neutral neutrons, so the electrons closer to the nucleus are held tighter in place whilst the ones further out are more prone to chemically react because they aren't as megnetically tied?

well yes but i was wondering how they stay in orbit
one is + and the other is - so why dont they stick

it said something about clouds but i didnt understand that well
Posted: 2010-10-30 04:16:16 Report Reply
I'll try to explain this as well as I can. The electrons are travelling extremely fast, they try to make their way toward the centre (negative attracting positive) They sort of 'lock on course' to the centre and travel towards it but the 'forward' momentum of their original speed and direction is making them miss. They are basically 'overshooting' their target and they do this repeatedly thousands of times a second so they appear to be circling the centre. This also happens with planets on a much larger scale.
However, we do not know why the electrons do not lose speed this has not yet been discovered so that's why they don't just slow down and get drawn to the centre.

this question is oddly like the one about the planetary orbit i have that no teacher will answer. the only response i ever get is that they both pull at each other, so logically that would make the sun eat us
Posted: 2010-11-16 18:31:45 Report Reply
basicly the earth for example is moveing at such a speed that it wants to stay in a direct line but since theres the gravity of say the sun keeping us basicly teathered to it we will just keep spinning rather then go flying off in some direction randomly, a good way to test this is to take a string attatch something to it like a rock and start swinging it in circles (do this outside btw and i take no responsiblity for broken things) but if u let go of the strig the rock willgo flying in a random direction thats what the suns gravityis to earth that string

Right, I understood that always, but what I didn't get was the Earth pulling at the Sun. I totally get the whole thing, but I hate how teachers just say stuff to make themselves think they're teaching interesting things. I'm in 8th grade, let's hope to God I know the idea.

ok first of all with all the knowledge at our finger tips people become lazy and figure that someone else has already thought of it and there does not need to be done. and also they are working on almost all of the things listed but not every person can do it because not everyone has they ability.

o cool now i found out some scientists made element 117
it existed for a few hundredths of a second and then decayed into a series of lighter atoms as it threw off chunks of mass from its nucleus.
