Why should they be allowed to be happy at the expense of everyone else's happiness? As iGreenDay pointed out, these people are draining our resources and causing major issues such as food shortages and lack of hospital space and wasting government funding in place of more needy causes. Hence, while these people are enjoying their over-indulgent lifestyles consuming far more than they are deserving of, others suffer from starvation and malnutrition.

Well said Cash. Making someone feel shit about themselves is gonna make it ten times harder for them to make positive changes. Plus I doubt anyones is gonna see this and think 'Hey, I wanna be obese'

If someone told me i was an ugly morbidly obese freak, who is to blame for Global warming as well as all other issues facing our poor planet, i would do something about it - LOSE WEIGHT.

Yes, calling somebody a freak might make them wish to be thin, but that's only half the battle. What I was saying was that going from obese to a normal weight* takes a huge change in behavior, and constant will power to keep it up over a long time and that they will be much more likely to succeed in that if they are positive and confident rather than feeling depressed and worthless. It's not rocket science.

You're right it isn't, and neither is using the correct form of "weight".

Of course it won't make anyone want to be obese but it will help portray the message that being morbidly obese is okay and it's not.

    It's a shame?
    Why is it a shame?
Nikki Blonsky is a beautiful girl whether she's fat or skinny
and these people are those who show others you don't have to be stick thin to be skinny and reduces the pressure on young girls to have to be a size 0.
OK, I understand the health effects about obesity, but these girls aren't obese and so I don't understand what the problem is here.
These people should be idols. They are beautiful, and their beauty comes out in their confidence by showing other girls to be proud of who they are.
So I'll ask again. Why is this such a shame?

Now I am aware that some people are just a little more heavy set than others. Some girls will just never be a size 0. Some guys will never have a six-pack. But, for an example I will use the girl in the picture above, if she really tries and exercies every day for hours a day and eats right that she would lose weight. It's not like she can't help it. This is just trying to help her feel like she is a victem.

Fair enough. I'm not saying she's a victim, she probably could lose weight if she tried, but she's obviously comfortable in her own body which should be admired.

I know for a female around 25% body fat is the maximum. I don't quite remember the exact numbers but 25.1%-35% is obese and anything higher is morbid obesity. For males all figures are 5% lower. (all numbers are approximations).

I saw the ad for it today. i dont think that we should promote everyone being obese! remember the days of cigarettes? they were advertised all over tv, movie actors smoked all of the time, and there were ads for them everywhere. now, there are surgeon generals warnings, you NEVER see a commercial for them on T.V., and if a movie actor/actress smokes, then the movie they are in gets a lot of bad press! i think that we should fight obesity the way they fought cigarettes: no commercials, surgeon generals warnings on everything from cupcakes to coke(Surgeon Generals Warning: Consuming this product can cause obesity, heart failure, and total all around unpopularity).

They should even this out by making the equivalent of a 'Fatty-cap Parking Space'. Just a simple idea... If your over a certain weight, you've got to park further away. The walk should be good for you, and the umbrella should let you be fine for the rain.

Why is the general American population so fucking superficial? You know the reason there has to be a show supporting the overweight people? Because many Americans are fucking d-bags and frown upon being overweight. If people would just let people be how they want to be then there would be no situation. If you think being fat is something derogatory then I think you need to change the direction of your thought process.

Not trying to be mean to you, its just the way I feel.

EDIT: Its not just the Americans, its basically every other developed country in the world.

Wow ghettoshen, obesity is frowned upon because it's going to kill America (EDIT: the WORLD). It's unhealthy for one, they eat more (less for the rest), use up government resources, take up hospital room so that people with legit needs can't be helped; I can go on and on if you'd like.

EDIT: It's not just the Americans, but THE WORLD suffering because of the overweight.

It's not in being obese which offends me, it's in letting yourself go to that point. I'm 24, and when I looked at my stomach last year and said "GODDAMN! THAT'S A FUCKING ROLL!" I immediately started eating better, working out, basically just looking at my body as my LIFE. This is what you live guys, you get the one big shot. When I turn 40, I don't wanna say "guess I'da been doing way better if I had have been more motivated and took better care of myself."

It's like my crackhead neighbour who drinks Lysol. He kills himself, it makes him happy, and when he falls over on the sidewalk and can't get up, my tax dollars get him a nice shiny Ambulance, then to a nice clean hospital, and than bandaged, medicated, and sent home with a pat on the bum and promises if he gets hurt again, they'll fix it all up. The biggest loser shoudln't be a gameshow, it should be a country where we ship fat people who need some fucking motivation. Drop the twinkies, stop making up excuses, just go out and abuse some exercise equipment. We need to stop telling people it's ok to be a fuck up.

AND YES, GETTING FAT BECAUSE GETTING PHYSICAL MAKES YOU UNHAPPY IS BEING A FUCK UP

Green day, isnt that a bit offensive to a few? People who are obese are thought to eat much, but the people i know who are large in size dont. :/
And some people do eat healthy and excersise, but some shit just doesnt work.

So tell me then, not how you stop getting fat, but when those numbers rise and that bench press doesn't, do you really think it's not eating too much/ badly?

EDIT: There's also more people agreeing with me than against me.

That is only true to some degree. For example the girl in the picture above can help it that she is that big. It's not like if she fixed her diet and actually exercised she would be that big.

alright speaking as someone who is fat (6' 270lbs) being fat is bad and a show showing how someone is proud to be fat is dumb. better to have a show like that where the main character finds a motivation (not a shallow one) and tries to lose weight make it kind of interactive not like the biggest loser bullshit. I just finished my senior year of high school and since im pretty much done playing football im trying to lose weight honestly the hardest thing is to find motivation and show like this will not help people

If you're not happy do something about it. Everyone should be happy within their body - I'm not sure if you are, but don't be ashamed to be bigger than other people.

The reason most people want to be skinny is for looks when it should be health. There's nothing wrong with being a bit overweight, but once it starts to affect your health then worry.

First off, since I haven't seen the show, I'll reserve judgement about whether it's really supporting obesity or not. My thoughts on obesity however is that it's unhealthy, plain and simple. It isn't something we should try to promote. Not that I think incredibly skinny models do any more help, because emulating them leads to some unhealthy behaviour as well (eating disorders, poor self esteem, etc.) however, obese people need to understand that they are unhealthy. If you take up two seats on an airplane, it should be apparent that you need to do something about your weight.
