I was thinking earlier how in American films people hardly ever say goodbye before hanging up the phone. They just make some vaguely conclusive statement or put on some slightly resigning tone and then JUST HANG UP. If you've never noticed this then LOOK out for it next time you see someone on the phone in a film.
